Just to forestall the folks saying "masks don't work," Duke University studied one million school children in classrooms with varying amounts of masking, and found masks to be pretty effective: https://today.duke.edu/2021/06/research-finds-masks-can-prevent-covid-19-transmission-schools
Some countries, Scandinavia and Japan, have stopped the Moderna vaccine for anyone under 30 years old as there might be a prevalence of heart problems in that population especially males, but they will give Pfizer vaccine to that population.
Recommendations for Clinicians - CDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 12 years of age and older given the greater risk of other serious complications related to COVID-19, such as hospitalization, multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), or death.
Everyone just wants this shit to be over and in their haste to make it be over we get children killed. Christ. Vaccinations are absolutely essential, but they still only slow the spread rather than halt it completely. But lives get saved and hospitalizations avoided that way.
We used to unite over causes which affected children, particularly when they were hurt, more so when they died.
Now, it's so...odd & inconsistent that the party so hell-bent on getting children *here* (into this life) appears to suddenly abandons them upon arrival, esp. if helping them might mean some small sacrifice (masking, for instance). If life is truly to be held sacred, surely it is to be held sacred in our children.
@BalladOfADeadSoulja Actually, if you're referring to the graph I posted, the graph only applies to US residents 17 and under. So only a few of them are vaccinated because it's not available to 12 and under. And yes, the numbers say the delta variant is more dangerous to kids than the original version of the disease.
@ElwoodBlues NYT - July - Buses leaving the Texas city at the heart of the border crisis are struggling to keep up with business — because they're full of illegal immigrants.
@Stereoguy The mRNA vaccines were about 95% effective against the original "Alpha" variant, meaning prevented symptoms in 95% of vaccinated people.
For the current delta variant, I'm not sure what the "prevent symptoms" numbers are, but it's still highly effective in preventing serious disease. I'll make a post at top level (so it won't get buried) with the preventing serious disease links.
