We all have to develop methods of self control.
MY self control begins at the grocery store. I don't go in. If I SEE food that looks delicious, I will buy it. If I bring that food HOME I will eat it. I know that. So I order my groceries online, and I find it easy to stick to healthy choices. I don't SEE the foods I know I should not have.
My SNACKS consist of natural almonds without salt, Chocolate Peanut Butter Larabars...(because I am a LITTLE bad). I don't BUY sugar, potatoes, pasta, rice, white flour, or anything made with white flour. I buy inexpensive whole grain bread, but that is the only baked goods item I will buy.
Next month, I plan to buy WASA rye crackers, so that I can include a snack with cheese and crackers now and then.
If I am going to buy juice, I buy sugar free, zero sugar, or "diet" versions of Cranberry juice or Cranberry juice mixed with other fruit juices.
I do not buy soda, or canned or bottled drinks of any kind, because that is how calories slip in to a diet.
I use Smart Balance margarine made with olive oil, and I use mayonnaise MADE with olive oil, and of course, I use olive oil for cooking.
Because I do not use sugar, I buy the generic equivalent of Splenda. I use it primarily to sweeten the VERY rare cup of hot cocoa I make, and to sweeten the custards I make with milk and eggs. I know Splenda is not good for me, but I lack self control with real sugar. I don't buy jam or jelly, because it is made with sugar.
You are getting up there in age, and it is very normal for men of your age to develop a pot belly.
I suggest that you do sit-ups.
I am not going to bother suggesting that you walk or go outdoors to get some much needed cardio, because I know you won't.
Think about buying a used exercycle or a used treadmill or a used stair stepper instead. That way you can do your cardio workouts without leaving your apartment.
