One minute you’re 20-something and circling the Hardee’s parking lot at crazy excessive speeds waiting for the final friend of the group to get off

work so you can all have a Saturday night you’ll look back on 20 years later and shake your head at.

The next minute you’re 40-something and scarfing down a rice cake braless whilst fighting sleep at 9:54 at night, shaking your head for different reasons.

Growing up is so awesome 😒

As an early 60s guy, I can say it only gets better
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Uh… is that the correct method for eating rice cakes? 🤔
HikingMan · 51-55, M
The thing about aging is that your tolerance for nonsense decreases at the same approximate rate that your tolerance for boredom increases.
When you're in your mid 20's you'll sit through the most random chaos just for some excitement.
By the time you hit 45 you're trying to find ways to trade exciting moments for a predictable Wednesday afternoon.
@HikingMan This is where the saying " no news is good news " comes from😷

@HikingMan The need for peace and quiet in this era is unreal. But makes sense when you look back on it.
With all my shenanigans I can't believe I made it to this age

In the next twenty years, you notice you are fighting sleep at 9 pm but after midnight you get to play Wheel of Exhaustion. Will you wake up hourly? Will you wake up at 3, or 4, or 5. Will you win the grand prize an sleep a full 8 hours? Either way, "well rested" is a concept that is as extinct as the dinosaurs.

Somehow I can relate to this. Except the rice cake. 😂
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
I seemed to have skipped that phase. I spent my 20s absolutely miserable babysitting someone over twice my age and working dead end jobs.
One minute you're drunk and stoned at midnight watching MTV pool parties and the next minute you're in bed by 8.30pm watching the news 😐

Tf 😐
Just wait till you get past 70 and despite trying like hell to convince yourself that you see advantages in growing old, your body starts to deteriorate and says to you every morning. "You think yesterday was bad? Watch this! "😷
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I stopped reading at braless. ☺
@Degbeme Now imagine the pencil test being done with ricecakes...😷

I'm braless... are you absolutely certain?
Then you need to calculate how old you are, because it's too hard to remember.

@TransientTinkerer I couldn’t help but snicker at the fact it pisses so many off. I experience that side effect as well, and I rather enjoy it as I shrug my shoulders.

I know it seems like that lightness is simply who I am, but after the last few years it was drained from me severely due to the curveballs so many of us encounter in some way, shape, or form. So now that I’m working my way back to rebuild it and to who I’ve really missed being, I love witnessing that side effect from others because it solidifies that I’m on the path I want to be on for a change. And I think that within that pissed off there might be a hint of light that actually infects them some. That’s the hope anyway.

The one thing that I’m noticing though is that my mind is not fully aligning with my body, which is a sucky part of growing older. There’s so much energy busting through the seams of my mind…so many ventures I want to experience…but my body feels so weighted down by the restraints of knees that had years of running races and playing hopscotch. The restraints of my shoulders learning Janet Jackson dance routines in my living room. The restraints of my back lifting three toddler boys constantly because my embrace felt that safe to them.

My mind is always ready to conquer the world in so many storybook ways, while my body feels like it’s lived five lifetimes to their fullest.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart evidence of a well-lived life. I’m hoping you find your light again. You have so much to offer. If you just need someone to sit in the trench with you, I’m always here.

@TransientTinkerer You’re a treasure, my guy 😌

And you know that goes both ways.
