Bananas are so radioactive that shipping containers loaded with them have to be hand checked for nuclear weapons as normal detectors won’t work.

Now, who wants a smoothie? 😅

ha ha ha highly misleading statement. description.
The main fruit in the smoothie is non loaded at all.. ONLY THE PEEL of the banana is having traces of thorium when detected in a low count
Bananas are rich in potassium (chemical symbol K), and a very small fraction of that naturally-occurring potassium is in fact radioactive – about one-hundredth of one percent (actually 120 parts per million). The radioactive variety of potassium is potassium-40 (K-40, 0.012% of total potassium).Bananas have naturally high-levels of potassium and a small fraction of all potassium is radioactive. Each banana can emit 0.01 millirem (0.1 microsieverts) of radiation. This is a very small amount of radiation.

Wow scary, I just ate a banana.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@Laffytaffy Weirdly, it’s the potassium we want from them that is the radioactive part. Also, they apparently produce small amounts of antimatter too
Laffytaffy · 22-25, F
@Zaphod42 oh no anti matter. No wonder I feel like my atoms are falling apart.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
Sounds like science fiction! Lol
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@SlaveEt Right? Lol
