Is it safe to say that photo filters help deceive people's looks?

My best buddy has been dating this chick online for over 2 months. They finally decided to meet up, oh boy! The person on the picture looked nothing like her, her natural skin colour is a beautiful brown and she manage to whiten it with filters. She's actually twice the size of the person in the photo. She gave herself a photoshop surgery. He was so sad because he fell for her quirky personality but the whole appearance made him felt betrayed.

Oh yeah. Photoshop can work Miracles.
I however learned the hard way to filter my photos.
This crazy girl tracked me down through my normal photos.
Lesson learned! Filtered and small resolution can save u da trouble!
[c=#BF0080]Oh goodness.. that's why whatever pic I post here I don't post on any other social media.[/c]

@theowl: Just video call your crush/future partner. That's the 1st thing I did when I met this girl online. Everyone has a phone no? just skype
SW-User
@Pinkrainbowkisses: Same. I make sure to not post pics here that i will use again elsewhere lol

He got catfished :/

I wouldn't call it catfish as such, maybe she wasn't comfortable with her looks.
SW-User
@LostInTheDesert: possibly

It is sad how people can deceive the reality! Maybe if he had tried video chat with her before meeting he would have known the real looks of hers
meemo70 · 51-55, M
@LostInTheDesert: he has learnt it the hardest way though
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
Its sad but sometime mistakes teach us the greatest lesson.

@LostInTheDesert: true. This is life!!

They're dumb to meet up without video calling

@Headlines: Eh heeeeeeeem.. Well... I dun't mean to brag but I am a little amazing. ᕦʕ •ᴥ•ʔᕤ Shh shh shhshh!! No gloating!! Mommy said being cocky isn't very charming.. ┬┴┬┴┤•ᴥ•ʔ/
SW-User
@bearinthebigbluehouse: U gonna make a nice papa bear one day bear!!!
bearinthebigbluehouse · 26-30, M
@Headlines: Eeeeeeh.... I dunno about that, dude bro dawg... Marshmallow said we'd have to get married first and I dun't want to get married.. ┬┴┬┴┤•ᴥ•ʔ/ SHh shshshhs!! I shall teach Bear Jr the family secret....... Bear Fu!! ʕง•ᴥ•ʔง
[c=#BF0080]Ehhh I use filters sometimes.. my glasses in my avatar is a filter and I have a cappuccino lighting filter but it doesn't change my looks all that much.. BUT I'm not here to date either. There's one person on here who has seen unfiltered, raw pics that can confirm that lol. I think if people are on dating sites then they probably should use pics that are accurate to what they look like.. I would consider that deceiving for sure.[/c]
@meemo70: [c=#BF0080]Lmao.. this IS my real photo. Only my glasses and brownish tint are filters... but yeah I know what you mean.[/c]
meemo70 · 51-55, M
@Pinkrainbowkisses: 😂😂 I know it's your real photo lol
You know what I mean anyway ;)
[c=#BF0080]Ahhh gotcha. 😄[/c]
SW-User
Yes.
Wow..:/ that sucks. This is actually one reson I don't hate Snapchat. If the picture is sent through there and without a filter, it should be them for how they really look- unfiltered
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
I feel sad for him.
SW-User
@LostInTheDesert: me too 😔
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
@Feature: I've been trying to cheer him all day. I tell ya, ice cream and episodes of Vikings does the trick.
SW-User
No, of course it's misleading. That is why I hate all these filters.
Actually if it's an online meet and I am interested in them, I'd want to do a video chat before a meet.
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
Exactly!

it sad a lot of people do that.. part to gain extra attention. and it does seem to be deception.
I thought catfishing was out of season
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
Scary scenario though.

Been there. Saw a girl on eHarmony. Looked ok and rather pretty. When I finally met her, she looked like Bill O'Reilly. Can't understand why people don't post normal pics. The second you meet in person, game over.
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
Omg 😲
SW-User
Exactly- it doesn't make sense. Filters can be for fun, but to deceive is pointless
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@LostInTheDesert: Yep, also happened with a girl at LEAST 2x the size in her picture. I felt bad for her, and enjoyed a nice dinner date.
caccoon · 36-40
Yeah, and some people use photos from when they are younger too.

I've used dating sites in the past and it can be pretty frustrating.
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
It's rather sad, this is probably why video calling people can help remedy this problem.
caccoon · 36-40
@LostInTheDesert: Yeah, absolutely.

I met a decent amount of men that lied about their height as well... It's weird. It's like, WHY? If you really intend on meeting someone, why deceive them right away?
LostInTheDesert · 31-35, F
This is the reason why I chose to stay away from internet dating etc. Some people send pics from the internet too.
