i have seen similar couples several times so i dont see an issue anymore unless you were just dating a recent 18 y/o in which you have been talking since he was younger which it would raise me concerns
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Nah. It works the other way too. A 20 year old woman can date a 29 year old man. Will it last? God knows but the thing to destroy relationships in my experience is not age, it's ignorance.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
I personally doubt I'd be attracted to a 20 year old guy but if it works for them, more power to them. Do those that make you happy.

i don't think so i have known quite a few bigger age gaps with excellent relationships it will depend on the couple
Gringo · 46-50, M
Nah. Y'all just can't drink wine together.
Lilymoon · F
short term no. Long term yep.
Gingerbreadspice · F
It’s better than 16 and 25 and a bit better than 18 and 27 but not as good as 30 and 39.
WaafaS · 26-30, F
@Gingerbreadspice I like that age group.
Old51 · 70-79, M
@Gingerbreadspice sure you miss
Stephie · 22-25, F
Guys are on the average 2-3 years less mature than women of the same age. An actual age difference of 9 years as in your example would make it about 6 years in terms of maturity. Therefore, an age difference of 6 years is probably ok.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@quietwhispers101 You can talk to me anytime when I am online. Sorry I missed you.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Guardian You can have a fully functional couple with an age gap of 9 years. The problem may arise pretty soon though should they decide to have children. If they wait another 5-6 years, the woman will already be in her mid-thirties and it is stretching her biological clock a little too much. I would not feel comfortable with that constellation.
Sexually? PERFECT! Mentally? Good Luck!
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I do. Men mature more slowly than women, so the maturity gap is actually larger than the numeric.
If it’s just a FWB situation, then the nine year gap doesn’t matter.

Surely if both parties are happy then live and let live 👍
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Is 60 too old for a 29 yo
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
No. Commonalities and personalities are the keys to a relationship. Age only plays a small part and in those two areas.
Believe it or not my half brother married a woman 20 years younger than himself, had two kids and is still married after the kids graduated from college.

The general rule is half your age plus seven, leaving the youngest age at 21.5. However, I personally think it's perfectly acceptable, as I've made a few platonic friends well into their 30s without feeling any age gap.
WaafaS · 26-30, F
@SW-User My ex was 18.
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
Depends on what you are looking for, and the life experience / maturity of the guy. But i would not bet on an enduring relationship with anyone who hasn’t developed a good sense of self and has lived enough life to know things.
Bartleby · 51-55, M
It depends. Usually a 29-year-old and a 20-year-old are in such different life stages. In most cases it probably wouldn’t work long-term but in a few cases it might.
Nicenlongnthick · 41-45, M
I was 18 and with a 39 uear old female
SaltnLime · 70-79, M
Yes. There is a huge difference in maturity and experience between 20 and 29. Definite red flags for this relationship.
BohemianBabe · M
As long as they're both legal, age doesn't really matter. What matters more it stuff like where each person is in their lives.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
Nope, you both can still have a family together if all works out. Just watch the maturity level of that 20 year old.
Mmiker · 46-50, M
Depends on one’s maturity.
