Dating apps are scams.

@Hanginginthere I find it equally difficult to meet people irl as much as the online environment but I have my POF messaging preferences screwed down fairly hard in a veiled attempt to try and limit the approaches that might come my way. I almost never trust a first-approach made by someone else.

@zonavar68 the issue with all of the dating sites is they don’t care enough for weeding out fake profiles and having messaging limits or “swiping” on profiles because most people don’t read profiles anyway really they just go on looks only
NerdyPotato · M
People on dating apps only show their best sides and profiles are very shallow. On SW though, some people give you a chance to really get to know them.
AnneCute · 18-21, F
@NerdyPotato That's a good answer🥰
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
SW isn't a dating site, but lots of guys seem to think it's a 'tinder alternative' to use for stalking/approaching/preying on women. I find that attitude disgusting personally.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Some people were banned from all the dating sites, so they end up here.

If you find romance on this site, good for you.

I like getting to know people. Yet not in person as much. I'm just not comfortable with people. And I'm meeting no one to date. Im married. Over 40 years. And not wanting to change that. So it's a social site to me, but not a dating site.

DGMW? That acronym ain't cute Anne 🤨
BeefySenpie · M
@AnneCute Just teasing, never heard that one before but figured the meaning out
Really · 80-89, M
@BeefySenpie I think 'Don't get me wrong' stands for something like 'We both know what I really mean but I want you to ignore that.

If u are over a certain age you don't look for dates online or mostly anywhere. The rest is UP TO YOU. (you don't really think u need our permission??)

I always had better luck meeting people using the old Instant Messenger apps like AIM and Yahoo. More spontaneous and real conversations with people. Dating apps are like never ending preparation for first dates and seem fake, plus loads of scam accounts. But I guess that’s social media in general these days.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
I don't really see it as dating app, not that I'm in that market anyway. But if I was I don't think this is where I'd start.
LandOfOz · 61-69, M
Most dating sites are pay sites or facebook dating groups are full of scammers

@Justice4All That's Redhotpie or Adultmatchmaker or Alt (for the really kinky ones). Or cheap orgies via Tinder and Bumble. or ye-olde linkerator site slip.cc (which has redirected to Ashley Madison for about 12 months now). I've checked them out to see what they're about, but don't use them and when I have no positive results have ever ensued.

@Justice4All I've never been married. I don't understand the need or desire for it.

It is like the playground at recess, everyone wants to play

It's the anonymity.
People can say/do/pretend just about anything

Because you have to pay for dating apps

Well you are beautiful

Feels like people are more themselves here. Not that I've ever dated anyone from here. But dating sites are also just rough for men. There's so many dudes on those things that its like being the needle in the haystack. Rarely get messages back. Better to be friendly here and see if anyone shows residual interest. At least here you'll get some socially friendly replies sometimes.
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco From very early on in my two 'phases' of experiences with dating sites after leaving my first partner and getting with my second (early 2010's) and since leaving my second (2018 onwards), I'm of the view that on most so-called 'dating' sites the rate of 'genuine' men to 'genuine' women is 100 to 1 or much higher, so much so that 'genuine' women can easily get flooded with contact attempts whereas a guy gets nothing and those that do come his way are fakes/scammers/bots. And because there are so many men using the sites, the return on investment for offering paid subscriptions only requires a very tiny portion of men to decide to buy those services to make the sites fully profitable almost from day 1 of their existence. I have never actually had a woman i've dated and met through a dating site admit to buying any paid services. Some sites (like eharmony) appear to make women have to pay just like guys to use all the site features, but I'm sure some others don't.

I just use it to post my semi-mindful musings. But I have made some good friends.
Seems as if people are using this website more like a dating site.
It’s weird that they do because it’s not a dating site.
