I don't use them, but knowing people are visual creatures I imagine it's almost essential.
As much as we think we can be purely congnitive, we still gauge a lot about people by how they look.

Even for people who aren’t superficial hoping to pair up with a model, a pic helps someone get a feel for you. And not having one is a bit of a red flag.

You need a picture so they know who your talking to. Your going to meet up in person eventually if it works out. Doesnt have to be a dolled up fancy picture. Just your regular face that they would see on a regular basis.

If you photoshop the crap out of your picture then you will get the wrong attention from sleazy people and when you meet the right person in person they will see how fake you are. Not a good way to start a relationship.
