@foldedunfolding But people borrowing something like a hairstyle from another culture is something that is often done out of admiration for that culture. It’s better to look at it as something that promotes cultural diversity rather than being confined to elements from a single culture.

@foldedunfolding From my experience, most indigenous (those in my area, anyway) see that kind of thinking as counterproductive. It’s actively discouraged among younger generations and instead, it’s taught that preserving their culture and traditions while maintaining their identity is what’s most important now. Again, that’s how it is with the indigenous communities in my area. Seems logical to me though. 🤷‍♀️
