The Cancel Culture

In the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd, the American Left has begun assaulting statues, parks, and public buildings. Protesters in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park pulled down statues of slaveowner Francis Scott Key, who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner,” and Saint Junipero Serra, the Spanish priest beatified by the Vatican for building the missions that spread Christianity in the New Spain territory of California. They attacked the monument to Ulysses S. Grant, the general responsible for winning the Civil War and the president who protected freed slaves under Reconstruction. Also vandalized in San Francisco, for obscure reasons, was a bust of the great Spanish novelist Miguel Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, who had himself been held as a slave: the protesters wrote “bastard” on it. Christopher Columbus statues in Boston, Virginia, and Minnesota have been damaged. In Wisconsin, protesters defaced a statue of Union Army Colonel Hans Christian Heg, an ardent abolitionist. New York City will remove a statue of Theodore Roosevelt from the entrance to the American Museum of Natural History Museum for its colonialist and martial imagery. Protesters are now promising to pull down a statue of Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, from Lincoln Park in Washington, D.C., after almost succeeding in destroying the monument to Andrew Jackson directly across from the White House.

And of course the leftists here on SW want to be part of the depravity. Anyone offering support for President Trump is fresh meat for the left to march in with lies, insults, hyperbole, and offer up an apparently endless set of anti-memes.

The CEO of Goya foods is the most recent sorta famous person to be attacked. Last week they got Terry Crews. The Twatter bots engage, the media follows suit, and before you know it, another person's career is in jeopardy, rights to free speech stripped from them and the cancel culture zombies feast on the remains. The laugh among themselves, sometimes chatting back and forth how dumb the OP is,etc. They're like gangs of bullies, emboldened by what they think is their own anonymity and what they think is large number.

I just learned what 'cancel culture' is. And realized how it has manifested here on SW. For the most part I'm slightly entertained by them. But, now and then, they do get under my skin. I've been a big guy my whole life. I suppose because of that, I've rarely had problems with bullies. When I had the opportunity, I would go the aid of someone else being bullied. Of course here, no one is bigger than anyone else. And the cancel crowd know who each other are and can respond quickly if one of their own is being taken out.

So, I'm conflicted. Do I just ignore them? Block them? Let them have their way?

That's really not my style. I don't back away from a bully. Personally, I want to take 'SILENT' out of the silent majority.

So, what do YOU do? Have you given any thought?

I can't wait to see what the CC has to say here.

You'll have to give them a minute to reply. They have to check with the propaganda department first. A liberal isn't allowed to have an original thought.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@DukeOfEarle
I wish they would get some new memes though
Come on Selvis and Harriet - get some new material.
Maybe, if it's not too difficult write some words!

I have been blocked by so many right wingers on SW that ive lost count. You guys are like purple haired students needing a safe space.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MrBrownstone I dealt with it head on and called out the obvious hypocrisy.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123
The right really care abiut free speech, just as long as ita their views which are cancelled.
That doesn't make sense.
Did you make seven typos?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123
right moan about free speech only when it impacts them.
Well, there's no better time to bitch, is there?
And EVERYONE I know was ok with the protests UNTIL they started with the looting, rioting, and arson.
So, I don't know if I accept that argument.

Ty Barack Obama for a post truth, anti-logic world. Your lies, fabrications, hoaxes and indoctrination have given a new meaning to stupid and clueless.

Obama the creature who took a crap on America, and a generation of leftist drones who thanked him for it.

The left are so tolerant that they want everyone to only think how they do.

Don’t Fall For The ‘Cancel Culture’ Scam
Anecdotes are not data, free speech is not under attack — and elite journalists should find something else to write about. By Michael Hobbes

What Are We Actually Talking About Here?
The first question to ask when determining whether you’re falling for a moral panic is whether it’s really a Thing. Societal freakouts over razor blades in Halloween candy, strangers in vans kidnapping kids, and teenagers hosting “rainbow parties” turned out, in hindsight, to be based on tiny numbers of confirmed cases — or none at all.

“Cancel culture” has the same characteristics as previous episodes of pearl-clutchery. Nearly every example cited by the Harper’s letter turns out, upon scrutiny, to be something else entirely.

Your right we have to wake up
The schools must be liberated from the left

It is possible to be against the idiocies of the far left and yet understand that the President is a sociopathic snake oil salesman. Look up the term "not mutually exclusive".

The difference is that the far left has some crazies in the street. The far right has their hands (in some cases, very tiny ones) on the levers of power. There's no equivalence.

A few bullies actively seek me out when I see in my notifications that they have once again responded, most of the time I don't bother even looking. I try real hard to be reasonable and not get heated but sometimes the beatings get me worn down and I lash out. Some have blocked me because I don't respond, it's always nice when the trash takes itself out. Others are firm in their wish to try and tear me down.
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Budwick Often I can see "blocked" on my notifications but I can't see the post. Sometimes they message me to tell me.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@curiosi
Sometimes they message me to tell me.
Well that's down right civil of them, eh?
I find them amusing at best. Let’s get down to brass tacks: they’re WORDS. That’s all. And they’re not even spoken, just typed on a computer in their parent’s basement. I was bullied in school. I was also a white minority in school until my parents finally saw reason and got the hell out of that town. I was bullied until I learned how to box, how to wrestle (also know as hockey lol) and how to fight dirty. I learned not to give a shit about their words. Keep jawing stupid, I’m sizing you up. Most of these cowards wouldn’t know what the hell to do if they were physically confronted. Last I checked their liberal handbook instructs them to curl up in a corner and piss themselves so they won’t be raped. So don’t pay them any mind. Which is a kind way of saying, “Fuck them.” They aren’t worth your time or concern. If anything their cyber-bullying has to be the most pathetic thing I have ever heard of or seen. @curiosi

I support their cause but violence will fail to gain people's support and give government an excuse to use force. protests should be peaceful

We have guests now.

We're not wearing masks.

I'm leaving for awhile to socialize.
I hope we're not arrested.
I'll catch up later.
