The Cancel Culture

In the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd, the American Left has begun assaulting statues, parks, and public buildings. Protesters in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park pulled down statues of slaveowner Francis Scott Key, who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner,” and Saint Junipero Serra, the Spanish priest beatified by the Vatican for building the missions that spread Christianity in the New Spain territory of California. They attacked the monument to Ulysses S. Grant, the general responsible for winning the Civil War and the president who protected freed slaves under Reconstruction. Also vandalized in San Francisco, for obscure reasons, was a bust of the great Spanish novelist Miguel Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, who had himself been held as a slave: the protesters wrote “bastard” on it. Christopher Columbus statues in Boston, Virginia, and Minnesota have been damaged. In Wisconsin, protesters defaced a statue of Union Army Colonel Hans Christian Heg, an ardent abolitionist. New York City will remove a statue of Theodore Roosevelt from the entrance to the American Museum of Natural History Museum for its colonialist and martial imagery. Protesters are now promising to pull down a statue of Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, from Lincoln Park in Washington, D.C., after almost succeeding in destroying the monument to Andrew Jackson directly across from the White House.

And of course the leftists here on SW want to be part of the depravity. Anyone offering support for President Trump is fresh meat for the left to march in with lies, insults, hyperbole, and offer up an apparently endless set of anti-memes.

The CEO of Goya foods is the most recent sorta famous person to be attacked. Last week they got Terry Crews. The Twatter bots engage, the media follows suit, and before you know it, another person's career is in jeopardy, rights to free speech stripped from them and the cancel culture zombies feast on the remains. The laugh among themselves, sometimes chatting back and forth how dumb the OP is,etc. They're like gangs of bullies, emboldened by what they think is their own anonymity and what they think is large number.

I just learned what 'cancel culture' is. And realized how it has manifested here on SW. For the most part I'm slightly entertained by them. But, now and then, they do get under my skin. I've been a big guy my whole life. I suppose because of that, I've rarely had problems with bullies. When I had the opportunity, I would go the aid of someone else being bullied. Of course here, no one is bigger than anyone else. And the cancel crowd know who each other are and can respond quickly if one of their own is being taken out.

So, I'm conflicted. Do I just ignore them? Block them? Let them have their way?

That's really not my style. I don't back away from a bully. Personally, I want to take 'SILENT' out of the silent majority.

So, what do YOU do? Have you given any thought?

I can't wait to see what the CC has to say here.

I have been blocked by so many right wingers on SW that ive lost count. You guys are like purple haired students needing a safe space.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 I'm so sorry so many have found you so repulsive that they felt a need to block you.

You're actually one of my favorites.
let's see if we can figure out why!

@PainfulTruth Good job!

@Burnley123 Avoiding the question like you accuse everyone else I see.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@PainfulTruth Though we have 65 million people which more than any of your states, so maybe its not that awful.

I wasn't mocking America anyway. Dude, like other countries also have a political right too man.

I say qgain, the right moan about free speech only when it impacts them. You think criticism is cencorship and cancel anyone who upsets you by challenging your views.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MrBrownstone I dealt with it head on and called out the obvious hypocrisy.

What?
That doesn't make sense.
Did you make seven typos?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123
right moan about free speech only when it impacts them.
Well, there's no better time to bitch, is there?
And EVERYONE I know was ok with the protests UNTIL they started with the looting, rioting, and arson.
So, I don't know if I accept that argument.
