Creationists: If Humans and other apes were separate created "kinds", why are Humans and Chimps more closely related to each other than anything else?

If there was one created ape "kind" from which the other great apes diversified then why would one of them be more closely related to humans than to any of the others?
Or if there were numerous created ape "kinds", why was one of them created to be more closely related to humans than it is to any ape "kind"?
This relationship is easily explained through common descent...how does creationism explain it?

We have a common ancestor that lived thousands of years ago

This is the truth but it is not the creationist answer.

I'm not a seven day creationist but common design would address that question.
@Abstraction

You usually have stronger arguments to counter young earth creationism.

The scenario in the first iteration of the question is a defeater for creationism because if only "micro evolution"/adaptation occurs then there is no explanation under this model for how any member of ape "kind" could be more closely related to human "kind" than to any other ape "kind".

The scenario in the second iteration of the question demonstrates that creationism has no explanatory power. It cannot answer why, it allows for no predictions and it explains nothing. It can only say "We don't know but we have faith that god is behind it".
