US Debt Does the USA Government have any control, of even thoughts about controlling, dealing with its debt?

During Trumps first term he raised how much the US could owe in debt.
There was some hooha about it in the media til he did something else and the media started whinging about that.
My country is in debt too. I don’t understand how all that works.

No recognition of it or it's long-term effects coming from the White house.
I wonder if America believes there'll always be buyers for it's bonds no matter how much of the money raised is lost in interest payments before even touching the total owed.
Hence all the to and fro between Trump and the Fed. Reserve.

Seems to me, that debt is raised knowing that governments change so it will be the new governments will need to deal with it.
