America never a was a democracy, it’s a constitutional republic.

@meJess Ah, yes. The classic brainless argument from the right, that ignores the fact that a republic is a representative DEMOCRACY.
If I had the authority to do so, every single one of you people who make this ridiculous argument would be denied the right to vote from here on out.

@LordShadowfire so in other words you would deny democracy and universal sufferage if you were in charge, because some people don’t recognise the US system as a democracy. Representative is not the same as one person one vote.
Good to see your firm grasp of irony by the way.

@LordShadowfire I think most countries do have a kind of representative democracy. Canada and UK do.

@meJess

You just tried to claim it's not a democracy, so what are you crying about? If it's not a democracy, you don't have the right to vote. Representative is not the same as one person one vote.
No, it's not, but we still get to vote for our representatives, and we vote for certain laws to be passed. But don't get me started on the electoral college, gerrymandering, and other means of cheating in elections, or we'll be here all day. Good to see your firm grasp of irony by the way.
Said the person who went from saying it's not a democracy to demanding her right to vote. 😆

@JimboSaturn
I think most countries do have a kind of representative democracy.
And the reasoning behind that is sound. If it was a direct democracy, with millions of people voting on every single tiny little decision that our respective governments make, there would be massive voter burnout.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@LordShadowfire I think this rhetoric against representative democracy is really just anti-democracy propaganda. "well the US wasn't democratic anyway" an excuse for authoritarianism. Just another idea and instutution that is being undermined.
ThirstenHowl · M
@meJess you people whose only first reaction to the word democracy is to trot out this tired, tired, tired, tired old cliché need to keep on reading, the story doesn't stop where you think it stops. Your simpleton mind trying to snuff conversations before they ever start is not delaying the ultimate death of this country, on the contrary, this adolescent nonsense is only hastening it.
MethDozer · M
@JimboSaturn Exactly there's some pedantic philosophical truth to the notion, but it's always used in a bad faitj arguement to limit the power of the people, not enhance it.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@JimboSaturn 100% correct. "It wasn't a democracy, anyway," they say as they take our rights away.
