People in Cuba are really suffering. Little food, little electricity, No medicine, and some are dying from the mosquito-borne disease Chikungunya.

What the United States is doing in Cuba is very evil.

So I recently learned, I was spending a moment considering where my next holiday should be .

I had fancied Cuba and thought as it’s one of the few countries in the world left on list to visit .. why not next year

I’m intrigued by its history and the fact supposedly Culturally very little as changed. So I bobbed onto view tube to check out the latest only to find .. indeed very little as changed in decades.

🙂I’m looking forward to the experience!

@Kaetana You got that right 😂. it's one of the places where you see these old vintage cars from the 50s and 60s and they're in excellent condition, beautiful paint jobs.
You kind of forgot the Communism part... if it was so succesful it wouldn't need the USA.

@BritishFailedAesthetic The U.S. gets to put unilateral sanctions on any country of their choosing ? Did you know the recent oil tanker that was seized by the US was heading to Cuba? Cuba receives 80% of their oil from Venezuela. The UN consistently asked the U.S. to lift its unilateral sanctions on Cuba.
@SW-User That wasn't right. But my case still stands.

Typical. Make an accusation and don't back it up. Splain Ricky.

@Gibbon
Cuban government policies and economic model also play a central role

It seems you left something out because it says "also..."

Yes the Cuban government is very corrupt and they rather hold onto power instead of do what's right for the people. A long time ago, Cuban government officials had citizens fooled but not anymore. 90% of Cubans now want change.

I'm not disagreeing there, but if the United States lifted the sanctions, Cubans could at least have access to food and medicines.

@swirlie Exactly, the US sanctions are hurting Cuba. I actually didn't know we were not allowed to send money to Cuba. I have a friend there but I have never sent her money.

@swirlie You graduated in the top 10 of your class with a degree in business, so you understand how economics works. You know that countries cannot trade without U.S. dollars, which means Cuba doesn’t have the money to buy much because it lacks access to U.S. dollars. My Cuban friend says the government takes the U.S. dollars that people in the United States send to their relatives there.

That is correct. At least we're on the same page then.

You know that countries cannot trade without U.S. dollars, which means Cuba doesn’t have the money to buy much because it lacks access to U.S. dollars.

That is categorically false. Canada trades with Cuba and Canada transacts with Cuba using Canadian Dollars, not US Dollars.

Europe trades with Cuba and Europe transacts with Cuba using Euros, not US Dollars.

Russia trades with Cuba and Russia transacts with Cuba using the Russian Ruble, not the US Dollar.

which means Cuba doesn’t have the money to buy much because it lacks access to U.S. dollars.

False again. Cuba is richer than the entire USA per capita because Cuba is not $38Trillion US Dollars in National Debt, which means Cuba is a richer country than the USA in principle.

My Cuban friend says the government takes the U.S. dollars that people in the United States send to their relatives there.

What your friend doesn't know is that US Dollars are illegal Tender in Cuba, not because the Cuban government say so, but because the US government says so.
