One of the things that's appalling to me is how often swastika bearing folks are tolerated at demonstrations for Trump. It's horrifying that self-described American patriots SILENTLY ASSENT to Nazis in their midst. Repeatedly.
@ElwoodBlues Well lets be honest .. Trump/Pence flags in the MI pic .. at least some of this is not current day. Not that it makes it any less inappropriate .. but misleading to represent as current
@bijouxbroussard A faction, far from representative of the conservative base. I wish they were not even in existence. That said, I feel the same way about Antifa and some BLM supporters who chose violence and destruction to protest, support the elimination of the nuclear family and other destructive policies being within the democratic side. I know better than to claim they are more than a fringe element of it though.
@BrandNewMan The difference is, BLM has never been in charge. White supremacists have been in charge here for most of our country’s history. Just like the Nazis were in charge of a large part of Europe—and it only took Hitler a little over 10 years.
@bijouxbroussard Which is a good thing because BLM has done more to increase the wealth of their leadership than they have to support black people or their issues.

You see my avatar, but you know nothing else in particular about me. I’m very much aware that all whites aren’t white supremacists, and grateful for that. Sadly, some people of color are. That’s why some belong to the MAGA movement and why they support Donald Trump, who’s kicking their loved ones out of this country and making things more difficult for them even as we speak.
And I doubt that you know anything about BLM that Fox and Co. hasn’t spoonfed you. I made a point of finding out as much as I could about MAGA, and before that the Tea Party, when they first appeared. So I do know who they are.

I grew up in a mixed neighborhood where we were all in and out of each others homes. Some of my sons' best friends are people of color and were as welcome as any of their friends in my home.
Three of the smartest people I know are African American and I've hired and promoted people of color, gay /lesbian people .. aleays choosing the best qualified person for the job.
You can vote for Trump because the other side is as bad on other aspects and not be due to anything to do with racism.
I researched Antifa and BLM enough to know they are no better than the objectionable fringe of the right.

@BrandNewMan Okay, so you’re around the same age I am. That means I may have experienced a few things you didn’t have to. And we’re returning to the world I was born into, where I saw a lot of open and obvious racial discrimination.
You’re not needing to defend yourself; I’m not attacking you. What you seem to be defending are those old ways and the ugly attitudes of people who believe the U.S. was "great" when it was segregated and some people had fewer rights.

@KunsanVeteran I think the reason that a lot of school districts (especially in the South) are pulling the curriculum that taught about our past, is in an attempt to erase it.
I would never have imagined that could happen. I suppose I thought acknowledging the mistakes of the past was the first step in working through it.
But with people like Trump, DeSantis and Musk, they’re going to deny actual history, which means things can get really bad again. And there will be no historical context in which young people can view it.
