Bill Richardson, 1947-2023…R.I.P.

I remember when he ran for president…we could’ve done worse. And eventually we did.

2 term Governor of New Mexico, Ambassador to the UN and worked to get Americans freed from incarceration in other countries.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Someone who did not see politics as an exercise in stoking anger.
@DrWatson Exactly.

I didn't know who that was but R.I.P.

Was sad to learn of his passing. Richardson was my first choice among the candidates running for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 2008. He should have won a Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless work in negotiating the release of American prisoners overseas. It may happen posthumously, but it should have happened while he was still alive. R.I.P., Bill Richardson. 🙏

He did a lot of great work. Especially around hostages after he left politics. He did get swept up in that pay for play scandal but that appeared to be a hit job and it cost him a place in the Obama administration. Did a lot for NM though. That's for sure. I think he also provided a lot of inspiration to Latinos. A good man.

Sad news. I've liked him from the first few times I heard him speak...because he was reasonable, and for the reason DrWatson mentioned.
He was also the governor of the state where my brother lived, and they lived in Santa Fe at the same time.

That's unfortunate. I can think of plenty of politicians I would rather be hearing about in this context. He was one of the good ones.
@LordShadowfire Yes. That was my reaction as well. 🥺
