Why do we still complain about taxes AND complain we want services/roads etc as good as they have in high tax countries. It's a cliché now, but we want US tax levels and Swedish service levels. The pictures I have seen of US roads show me that the lack of infrastructure spend leads to dreadful road surfaces as a matter of course. Ours are bad enough. I want good collective spending on things everyone benefits from and that means (unfortunately) I have to pay into it.

Its about $A2.10 a litre here in Oz right now. (About a pound and a couple of pence) But will cycle down to about $A1.60 on a regular discount routine.😷

@senghenydd What you save in fuel costs you will spend in kevlar..The other factor is the income levels..$60K a year here is crappy money..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I didn't take into account different economies

@senghenydd Our fuel prices were always closer to Europe levels than American. But then we get all the other good stuff like health care, education and fresh food fairly cheap..And no need for snow tyres etc..😷

@OriginalNedKelly That looks to me a much better deal than we have in the UK. I seem to remember about 90% of the cost of petrol in the UK is Tax.

About half what we pay at pump is tax. 52p a litre fuel duty and then 20%VAT

@KatyO83 Oh Rob the Farmers stop Cold Weather payments for the Elderly, what about Work till you Drop get your Old Age Pension at One Hundred years old.
Britain was a better place years ago, when I started driving petrol was 33 Pence a gallon not a litre.

@senghenydd I don't agree with the it was better before nostalgia. But we suffered dumb decisions etc. We can't drive industrial change from government etc. But I glad I'm alive today not in previous times personally.
But as I say currently we (via our government) spend more everyday than tax income. So any tax change surely requires a move to tax something/one else.

@KatyO83 It was far better years ago for the British Motorist, I'm not looking at other areas, many areas I'm no expert on, I've been driving many years I can honestly say it was better and cheaper years ago.
Any fool raise taxes increase the price of this or that, all I can suggest is we look at other countries and pick their best ideas.

Yeah and then at the first semi-serious health issue you'll have to spend 100x of what you'd have saved in a lifetime of cheaper fuel
Doesn't seem a smart deal

I thought this was pretty common knowledge. The UK doesnt really produce any oil.
senghenydd · M
@TheDeathOCuHullainn We did from the North Sea I don't know how much oil we obtain from there nowadays.
The cost of petrol in the UK is mostly Tax.
