About half what we pay at pump is tax. 52p a litre fuel duty and then 20%VAT

@KatyO83 This isn't a very good deal compared to other countries, things came to a head a few years ago when Haulage Contractors said enough is enough, they were slowing Motorways down around the UK and petitioning parliament the then government picked on other areas to balance their books.

@senghenydd but fuel duty rises were pegged to cpi but that wax removed, or suspended. So it's like 10p less than it would be.
But.... We have so many cars on the road it's not stopping people is it? I have three 🤦🏼♀
And where are you going to move that tax burden? Add it to electricity as people go to evs? But we use electricity for everything else so hence the per milage thing. But they're going to need the tax from somewhere

@KatyO83 It's not my problem where to collect taxes from, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man would be a good move all subsides by the UK, where does the USA collect their taxes from. Everything is delivered by road fuel costs effect the economy.

@senghenydd so we stick another 3p on income tax?
That's the sort of thing the government has to grapple with. It's a conundrum I glad I don't have to work out.

@senghenydd I don't agree with the it was better before nostalgia. But we suffered dumb decisions etc. We can't drive industrial change from government etc. But I glad I'm alive today not in previous times personally.
But as I say currently we (via our government) spend more everyday than tax income. So any tax change surely requires a move to tax something/one else.

@KatyO83 It was far better years ago for the British Motorist, I'm not looking at other areas, many areas I'm no expert on, I've been driving many years I can honestly say it was better and cheaper years ago.
Any fool raise taxes increase the price of this or that, all I can suggest is we look at other countries and pick their best ideas.
