I remember hearing people where I lived in Scotland say this

Lol um I think you were just surrounded by racist people because that's not a generally accepted British thing. Same with "paki shop"

When I was at school in the 90s, some of the kids did call it that. "We're not racist, it's just what we call it."

Now, things have changed

Ah they're too close by to not know about them 😂

I worked with an old English man when I was teaching in Spain years ago, he told me that the older generation used terms like "chinky" a lot.
