Is Ukraine a corrupt country? I don’t know what to think or believe.

It is a country that emerged from the corrupt Soviet Union who has been at war with the remnants of that same Soviet Union since 2014. Torn by civil war and outright invasion. There is more than a little corruption in Ukraine, more than a little oppression from the leadership. I'm not convinced it is utterly corrupt, certainly less corrupt than the invaders.

This country took extreme measures during WWII, rounded up citizens and put them into concentration camps....made a lot of errors.....yet, I would not call WWII USA corrupt.

It is not an easy yes or no, black and white answer. Certainly, Ukraine has corruption, repressed civil rights of the population, and could be better led. There are extenuating conditions that make these somehow less objectionable in times of war.

I am not ready to write off Ukraine as a failed state, but it is certainly a State under extreme stress with all that entails.

I'm not sure of good answer in some ways Russia and Ukraine seem corrupt regarding each other for many years. I don't much stock in the Ukraine did this Russia did that babble.
However regarding our involvement and recent events I offer this.

I believe the people, like most around the world, are hard working honest people who care for their countrymen. However, I believe the political class are crooks.

All politicians are corrupt to some extent. I don’t think it’s a profession that attracts honest people. You end up choosing the lesser of two evils.

Like many country there was a degree of corruption before the Russians invaded and it's probably still going on in some areas.
I don't think it's any more corrupt than lots of other countries, certainly not as corrupt as Russia.

Its president and some of the generals appear to be.

they consistently rank pretty high on corruption

In 2012, they were ranked #3 in the world after columbia & brazil
In 2015, they were ranked most corrupt country in Europe
In 2023, out of 180 countries polled, they were still in the top 1/3rd of most corrupt

Even as pitiful as Europe has become over the last decade, they're not even worthy of NATO.

They are a kleptocracy, and no where near a democracy (let alone a republic) yet.

Pre trump is was widely accepted as the 2nd most corrupt country ever..

Post trump .. it’s filled with mother Teresa’s who’s mouth butter wouldn’t melt..
