I'm not altogether sure that a portion of "the Left" in the UK wouldn't rather have the Muslims, not for any conspiracy type reason but they're so reflexively wedded to anti-British/American/western European sentiment from being on the USSR's side during the Cold War that while not really a fan of Russia in Ukraine, feel that if NATO is against it then Putin must be doing something right.

@gol979
And wheres the anti war !ot gone? Hardly a peep about peace.
It's very hard even for the usual olive branch brigade to suggest that Ukrainians have no right to defend themselves from entirely unprovoked aggression (especially when they're doing rather well at it)

@Lhayezee most UK lefties absolutely welcome people from other countries and my city in particular is incredibly diverse

@Guitarman123 I didn't actually dispute that, and I don't think even "hard" left British people object to Ukrainian refugees either. But there's definitely a contingent among them that - at the same time as being very welcoming - also have sympathy with Putin's "NATO forced me to do to this", anti-Western argument

@Lhayezee if their is then thankfully their keeping quiet
