@NativePortlander1970 Europe now knows that US has run away. The Free World is defended by Europe and its allies, and the americans no longer have prominence in the world.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way. The americans have chosen not to lead, the americans have chosen to follow the instructions they are given by other autocracies, and america's ongoing treachery and duplicity means they should be quarantined so they cannot get in the way.

US is now aligned with russia and is subservient to three autocrats simply because a weak old man wants to be the fourth autocrat in what he sees as a 'club' that will rule the world.

He expected to be offered membership in 2020, but President Biden interrupted that expectation - hence the gigantic hissy fit and frontal assault fuelled by desperation. Now he's out of time... the biological clock is ticking. Beware an old man in a hurry, especially a weak old man like this one,

@NativePortlander1970 just to bring some common sense into this discussion.. it was always cheaper to stop Russia in Europe than it was on home shores... It was a win win for both Europe and the USA... I think Vietnam and Iraq probably cost the states a lot more....

@NativePortlander1970 Many western nations supported George W Bush's ill-defined "war on terror" with human lives, materiel, diplomatic effort, and vast amounts of taxpayers' money over the course of well over a decade. Alliances work mutually, they are never the zero-sum transaction that is presented by Trump. America under Trump is more of a liability than an asset in Europe right now.

@NativePortlander1970 You mean that the evidence presented to the UN to obtain wider international support was not fabricated in the same way for Afghanistan as it was for Iraq. War in the latter was no better thought out or planned than in the former.

My parents collectively spent eight years serving in both theatres.

@NativePortlander1970 These were not just America's wars. George W had respect for international law and used myriad levers and diplomacy to convince other powers that the threat of terrorism was an issue of global importance worth going to war over.

@SunshineGirl No, the US was under charter policy by the United Nations to make a case before the security council to request for allies in Iraq, that is why he got Colin Powell to lie before them with hand drawn "evidence". If the US had been a signatory with the international criminal court, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, and Rove, would all have been arrested, charged, and tried, for war crimes.
