The crazies are in power

is a well-travelled statement and it does feel like that it has returned into being. Nothing is of worth any more, not even the gas price nor the life of civilians nor that of one's own military involved in the war. No more wars, no more regime change indeed. I feel strongly too now, but then about the utter stupidity of recent events.

Here's a superpower spending all its military and diplomatic power in a war without an end in sight because they don't even know who's in charge at the other side any more. A war in which the said superpower will have to muddle along now with no real allies except the so-called Spartan in the region. Does anyone remember who actually won the war against the Ancient Persians? Not the city-state of Sparta, no.

But never mind this dumb reasoning yet again. When this war with Iran will continue into the unknown, because we all know that's not going to be over until the people over there will settle scores, just think back to what happened to the author Salman Rushdie. Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa (religious decree) on February 14, 1989, calling for the death of the author. 33 years later Rushdie was stabbed by a 27-year old.

Speaking about surviving the attack, the author stated: "I'm lucky. What I really want to say is that my main overwhelming feeling is gratitude". He lost sight in one eye and the use of one hand. I wish the United States all the luck in the world because I sense that they'll need it. Take care America!

I'm sorry but you're not understanding it all. This war has been justified for decades. I do mean decades, about a terror-state that the West keeps giving a chance to grow out of it. And they don't. It's LONG overdue.

You're tired of war. I'm sorry. So is everyone, but finishing it and ending the threat is the only way even a temporary peace is achieved. Thank God for President Trump. He sees right through the nonsense, and isn't worried about getting approval from the western elites (even the ones in the US) who have wussied us into this dreadful state.

Even if regime change is not effected - the abilitly of the terror state to continue non-stop attacking the world, Israel, and the US is greatly deprecated.

Finally... main reason no. 2. - if we are going to avoid a kinetic World War III, then it will only be by taking apart the allied dictatorship. That's a fact. Russia and China have already succeeded in neutering Europe, and while Europe has awakened from its self-imposed stupor (we'll see), well it will take a few years to get them back to full strength. So they're hoping the US won't be able to handle a 4-front war (Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran). SO - taking down one of those adversaries (not pontential but actual) goes a long way, towards FIRST - deterring World War III and second, winning if it gets to that.

@Djc59 OK well here are the facts.

Neither the 2020 nor the 2024 election were stolen.

Here is my opinion: Trump is doing everything he can to steal the midterms, and the Republicans are doing everything they can to gerrymander as many districts as possible. Dems are doing that to, but to a far lesser extent.

China, Russia, Iran and North Korea are not bent on causing a global war. However, the US and Israel seem to be doing everything they can to goad us into a full global conflict, and all in the name of keeping Netanyahu in power, and the Epstein files out of the news cycle.

@Waveney You're wrong on almost every count. And the evidence doesn't support your viewpoint (on the 2020 election as well). China and Russia seek world domination without a kinetic war, or... weakening the West and democracies to the point they can win one. It's been obvious for two decades.

You've got to be kidding if you think Epstein files, or keeping Netanyahu in power have any (and I mean any) impact on rationale for this war.

I'm sure you're point of view is well intentioned. But we have to disagree.

Just a little point of order for Trump & Hegseth. No bombing campaign in History has ever caused Regime change, without boots on the ground following. The specific thing Trump promises wont happen. In fact, history shows that civilian bombing actually steels resolve and unites the people. The London Blitz being the most famous example. I dont believe for a moment that minds sharper than Trump have not explained this to him...😷

The legitimacy of Trump's deeply unpopular regime now seems to rest entirely upon an interminable war with vaguely defined enemies. I truly believe that peace is not an attractive option for him. Why do people continue to treat his actions as normal. On BBC radio an hour ago journalists were describing Starmer's refusal to allow America to use British airbases for offensive operations (on the reasonable grounds that Trump has persistently broken international law and will eventually be judged by an international tribunal) as somehow aberrant, while Trump gets a free pass because might is right.

@jshm2 Your true understanding of the real situation is evident. This blow out of the US defence budget will drain stocks of very expensive and hard to source weapons systems that will cripple Americas ability for some time and add to inflation and ultimate demise of the $US as the reserve currency..😷

I saw a video showing how regime change has only worked twice with Germany and Japan, the others all failures as the current "effort" will be. I subscribe I think to the idea that they're all following a pre-planned plan :( If they can believe their precious bunkers wouldn't be safe maybe they'd think differently about their beyond sicko plan.
