Greenland is part of Denmark. A few years ago Denmark and Canada were at loggerheads with each other fighting over a tiny island between Greenland and Canada. I don't remember who won the spat and to be honest don't care.
Phaethon · 46-50, M
I think the orange dragon wants it because Russia has significantly built up its Arctic military infrastructure, with bases and airfields like Nagurskoye in Alexandra Land, which are geographically closer to Greenland. We are preparing for the next world war but people are too worried about pronouns to see it coming.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Phaethon I wonder if Russia is also investing heavily in its own far East: at closest Alaska with its oil is only 70 miles from the very remote NE tip of Siberia; but presently at least that area of Russia is more or less totally wild.

The USA does not need take Greenland at all. It already has a USAAF base there, and enhancing that would normally be a matter of civil agreements between NATO allies. Just as the USA has umpteen bases in Europe (including three in England).

Oddly there is a Russian-born, Russian university educated businessman based in Alaska, who is reviving an old idea for a railway tunnel across the Bering Straits. Apart from the formidable technical obstacles and sheer cost it would require close co-operation between the USA, Canada, Russia and China. It is extremely unlikely ever to be feasible, but either he is a very naive dreamer, a shares-fraudster on a grand scale or he has discreet pals High Up in Washington, Moscow and Beijing. Reportedly he has discussed it with Elon Musk, but I don't think we can count that as important.
pdockal · 56-60, M
No, Greenland is not a fully standalone country; it's a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Greenland has been under the protection of NATO, of which the US and Denmark are both members. Nevertheless, the Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed acquiring Greenland in 1955

Declaring itself a "near-Arctic state" in 2018, China has sought to build a "Polar Silk Road". It is particularly interested in Greenland’s rare earth minerals, which are vital for green technologies and currently dominated by Chinese markets

Russia maintains several military installations in the region and considers the Arctic vital to its defense. It has recently restored Soviet-era infrastructure and increased its naval and air activity near Greenland
It wont matter what anybody "stands with" it isn't up to Walmart shoppers to make these decisions.
I'm a little confused if it's an independent country or if it's under Denmark...
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
It's kind of contradictory that Greenland is ice and snow, whereas Iceland is profuse with greenery.

ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Sidewinder It is! :)
Khenpal1 · M
@Sidewinder It was during Vikings before internet , you had to make it green 🤣
Charity · 70-79
Let's see what happens if trump makes a move on Greenland.

Ukraine is not a part of NATO - Denmark / Greenland is a member of NATO - that maybe makes the difference
Love the rabid left .
They want to pretend trump is the only one after Venezuela, Greenland..

China and Russia arnt interested… ?

Just let them take them?

They just added Canada and carney to their collection.

Any faux outrage there? 🤔

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout correct assessment!

@Bravely
It’s about the people who live in their own country having the right to determine their own future.
Clearly they can't defend their own country(if you can even call it that). And who are we kidding, the US military could wipe out Germany, Denmark and Greenland going at 10%
It's cute though how they wanna make a stance. It's admirable, I'll give them that.
Mcmarie90 · 31-35, F
Greenland's owned by Denmark though. That's why NATO is involved.
Bravely · 56-60, F
@Mcmarie90 yes I do know that…it’s an autonomous territory. Crucially, more and more autonomy was granted after democratic referendums.
Democratic.
The right of the people to decide their future.
idontcareok · 70-79, M
seems you like oil, what you use it for?? oil turns into vaseline. are you happy using it?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Isn’t that what Europe said about Ukraine ?
Khenpal1 · M
its not about Greenland or other land , a country with almost 39 trillions in debt wants to buy something with fake money 🤣
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Sigh. It’s not independent. Fail post.
Bravely · 56-60, F
So all the Trump simps are spouting their predictable nonsense, peppered with the obvious tedious insults.
Honestly can’t you be a bit more original?

Anyway, we all know it’s about oil.
It’s always about oil.
@Bravely spout spout spout!!! Spout some more!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Bravely You prefer the ruskies and chicoms getting it, eh
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F

The military will be following illegal orders if they invade. They should refuse.
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
BUT, when someone believes they are GOD
swirlie · 31-35
No, it's not about oil either. Greenland is nothing more than a smokescreen for Trump's otherwise hidden connection to the Jeffery Epstein file.
swirlie · 31-35
Don't worry about Greenland. Trump is only using his threats of annexation as a smoke screen for his Jeffery Epstein coverup.
