There are hundreds of amusing placenames in England.

How about the village Piddletrenthide beside the river Piddle.
gandalf1957 · 61-69, M

@gandalf1957 there is also a village called "Puddletown" in Dorset near the River Piddle and was formerly known as "Piddletown" before changing its name in the 1950s..... :-)
@HijabaDabbaDoo oh, near London ends. Makes sense

@HijabaDabbaDoo London has some funny ones too. Like Pimlico and Elephant And Castle.

I believe non-native English speakers find Penistone amusing because their minds mispronounce the first syllable. ‘Pen’ is as pronounced in 🤔 … pen.

It’s a little village, it’s where pease pudding comes from.

There's also a place called Ham Spray

Got drunk and drew the name from a hat? 🎩🥴
Oh the English they are a funny bunch

@Shybutwilling2bfriends Because it's a mongrel nation...in a positive sort of way.
Like pease porridge hot ?

@Matt85 The funny thing is, locals or even those nearby seldom bat an eye when they hear the name of the town that is unusual.

The funniest and most befitting name of a town - Boring, Oregon.

BTW, how is the weather in your parts? In my city, it is about the same temperature as h3ll.

@HoeBag Sorry to hear that, I hope you have air con.

Clear skies here, 18 deg C.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@Matt85 Note the temps are farenheit. right now in my city it is 11 degree celcius.

Yeah it is often funny talking about the temperature with someone not in America because the scale is quite different. Like for us, 32 degrees is freezing, yet in Europe it is pretty warm. 😄
