It is an essential duty of citizenship to make rational and intelligent decisions that take into consideration the interests of others and the long-term security of the polity.

I think it's important to seek out the news from various sources so you can get a more balanced picture of what is happening in the world.

All news outlets have an agenda, but some are more reliable in the facts than others. Can't speak for your country, but British broadcast journalists have to meet certain standards of accuracy and are challenged when they don't. All journalism in the end is high-end gossip so prone to error.
The other thing to help you be a good citizen is to be able to tell the difference between a fact and an opinion.

@FreddieUK How should the media operate if not for profit?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Rapunzel29 Are making a profit and honesty incompatible? I understand where you're coming from, but many western countries subsidise news broadcasting in some way so the news divisions are not reliant in commercial interests. The trick is to avoid political interests as well. The less politicians have to do with journalism, the better. The UK has rules to stop foreign governments owning British TV and Radio stations. Newspaper ownership is also (lightly) regulated.

Like a percentage.. it could be 99% but they don't tell you only 19/20 participated instead of some huge number. The news ballparks information to get the most people reading it, so they say 20 people may have died, instead of 1 person confirmed dead and 19 missing.
