Is it irresponsible to be ill-informed as a citizen of a Republic?

Some say they don’t watch the television news, and while on state television you have to question the editorial decisions the actual news they seek to inform us about, tested, is important to ensure there are safeties in place to guarantee the existence of the Republic.

Like a percentage.. it could be 99% but they don't tell you only 19/20 participated instead of some huge number. The news ballparks information to get the most people reading it, so they say 20 people may have died, instead of 1 person confirmed dead and 19 missing.
Sensationalized news is the norm these days, scrutinize everything you read.
