All news outlets have an agenda, but some are more reliable in the facts than others. Can't speak for your country, but British broadcast journalists have to meet certain standards of accuracy and are challenged when they don't. All journalism in the end is high-end gossip so prone to error.
The other thing to help you be a good citizen is to be able to tell the difference between a fact and an opinion.

@Rapunzel29 Are making a profit and honesty incompatible? I understand where you're coming from, but many western countries subsidise news broadcasting in some way so the news divisions are not reliant in commercial interests. The trick is to avoid political interests as well. The less politicians have to do with journalism, the better. The UK has rules to stop foreign governments owning British TV and Radio stations. Newspaper ownership is also (lightly) regulated.
