The perception of distance in Australia
I've come across quite a few people who have seriously said that a five hour drive (for example) is "just down the street".
What is it with so many (most?) Australians that they think driving for five hours just to shop at IGA or Aldi is in any way normal? I get tired and restless if I've been driving for just half an hour, because for me that's a long distance trip.
