The problem is (and I hate to say this, because it gives the gun fetishists ammunition, pun intended) that Australia has addressed the problem of mass shootings without addressing the underlying mental illnesses that cause people to want to go out and kill a bunch of folks. You can outlaw weapons of mass destruction, but unless you treat people who feel like using them, they'll find another way.
