Looking at the results, the winners were the independents with a +2.2% swing so far. The LNP was definitely on the nose with voters, probably because of their Peter Griffin impersonator leader pushing his own adendas.
But will Labor have a majority, or will they have to woo the cross benches? Who will have control of the senat? Stay tuned for the answers to these and other intriguing questions.

@Bushranger So far Labor has won 71 seats - 5 short of being able to form a majority government. But it's enough to claim victory.

@zonavar68 A victory, but will still need the back benches for support. Also they had an overall negative swing, not as bad as the LNP but still a negative swing. I think people want more from their government, especially on climate issues.

@Bushranger Indeed - it's not going to be a majority government going on the results so far. But a change of government is always a Good Thing.

They didn't spend their time in office passing laws to rig elections? Amazing.

@whowasthatmaskedman Voting is not compulsory in Australia. Getting marked off the electoral roll as having attended a polling place is compulsory.

@zonavar68 That's true. But I think that once people turn up, they tend to vote. In my electorate there was only about five percent invalid votes. I don't know the breakdown between genuine errors and actual failures to vote, but the percentage is still low. I believe our system works and is very equitable.

@zonavar68 OK. Turning up to vote or taking steps to present yourself for voting IS compulsory. The take away from that is two fold. One. That every voter has to be provided with a not to difficult path to navigate to place their vote. So no shutting down polling places in areas you might not like the result. And Two. Every single person is going to be placed in a spot where it only takes them a moment to express an opinion. So every politician has to be careful NOT to offend anyone with their words or conduct. They cant count on voter apathy getting them a pass.😷

And the best part. The Labor party put up a mediocre leader and a so so campiagn. and the conservative right leaning governent lost seats not only to them, but the right lite Independents and Greens as well. They are really on the nose with the voters and with Pr Potato head as the heir apparent they are likely to spend a couple of terms in the wilderness to grow a new soul, or search the old one..😷

@GeniUs Yes. I agree.. And all things considered. (specially the terrible standard of politicians on both sides) I believe in throwing out whoever after two or three terms do that those abused by the last party get something back and everything gets done over time. The truth is that a strong centre government is probably the best answer. But what we have is a swinging pendulum, so I'll work with that.. Unless you are in America, where the pendulum swings between the right and the extreme right.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Chuck them out after a couple of terms has been my mantra for a while now, after consecutive wins they feel invulnerable.

@GeniUs The idealism wains and the zeal dries out. They get bored and corrupt. Our lot really should have gone last time..😷
