You gotta a hit rock bottom before you can stand up again.
LesDawsonsPiano · 70-79
@Sillywabbit Hopefully the bottom has been hit, but I fear it's still a long way further down.

In Bob Woodward's book 'Fear' he documents the previous Trump administration. In the first chapter, Woodward describes Trump wanting to end the free trade agreement with South Korea. He was determined to do it, despite the fact that ending the agreement might have severely jeopardised the US's national security, as part of the agreement was that SK could give the USA a seven minute warning if NK launched a nuclear strike aimed at American soil. Without the agreement, the USA would be reliant on a warning from a base in Alaska that could only offer a 15 to 20 minute warning. Trump wholly failed to understand the significance of that risk and would not listen to any security advice.

In the end, Trump's own staff became determined to prevent the President from signing the document to end the free trade agreement with South Korea, and actively hid copies of it or intercepted them before they could reach Trump's desk for his signature. Woodward called the action an administrative coup d'état. I think what will happen is aides and WH staff will do what they can to actually limit Trump's decision making on serious issues, especially affecting national security. In the case of SK and the trade agreement, Trump eventually forgot about it and moved onto other things and his staff breathed a collective sigh of relief. Whether you think that's a good thing is a matter of opinion. I think it might be much harder for anyone to continue preventing such things during this next term.

@MrSmooTh let me see - on the one hand we have a world famous Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who broke Watergate, the biggest political story in modern history, and who spent two years embedded with the Trump Administration.

And on the other hand, we have your sorry, uninformed opinion.

Which to believe....? 🤔

@Richard65 Experience outweighs what you can read in a book 100% of the time.

The faith in democracy, the free press, and the rule of law has been so eroded, this is the result.

You got it backwards. President Trump talks to, and relates to the people in the situations that they actually are. He's their best advocate in decades. He's hated by the elite because they can't control him, and he actually does things they oppose.

As for dictatorship - well, whew- we avoided a disaster by electing President Trump. He will dismantle much of the rights-squashing autocracy that was being built in Washington DC, and he'll be criticized even as he does it.

Generational damage. This is like when the Roman Republic was turned into the Roman Empire. Both share the same name but became fundamentally different societies.

Reminds me, sadly, of a poll taken during the Reagan years in which like 40% of Americans said they thought it would be best to abolish Congress and make Reagan dictator.
@ChipmunkErnie
Reagan gutted this country.

Good story but poor conclusion. President Trump’s administration will restore a lot of rights that the Washington elites have trampled on.

@SW-User

Once again I ask you, what rights have been taken away that you feel you needed to vote MAGA? What rights have been taken away from anyone?

Example: There is no such thing as "Gay Rights." All Americans are born with their rights, so we as a society aren't giving them any rights, but are in fact denying Americans their right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Do you think it is right for any American to deny a fellow American their Right to life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

@calicuz well if you’re actually believe what you’re saying then we agree with the same things, but you cited with the side that goes against it and I’ve already entered your request and would rights have been taken away
calicuz · 56-60, M
@SW-User

Again, I ask you, who is taking away someone else's rights?

You mean like fjb giving away money to Ukraine and college kids
It is never intelligent to put a law breaker that has never faced correction for their felonies, in charge.

So they voted for dictatorship. Great.

I wonder what she would have said, if you'd pointed out that fact.

I hope you are wrong about that last part, but I seriously doubt you are.
