Forget all the analyzing and re-analyzing of why Harris lost, this is what a Trump voter told me

She said she's been voting for Trump because we need a president who know when to break the laws, that needing congress's approval on everything is stupid because what's the point of having a president if he can't do what he wants to do. And Trump doesn't let anything stop him.

Well she's right with the last part.
I thought about telling her she's advocating for a dictatorship but I didn't want to get in her face because she's always nice to me, and besides at this juncture what's the point.

This is a runaway train that can't be stopped anymore. I doubt anyone that went up against Trump would have beaten him. Something like this only ends when there's the kind of historical disaster that lingers in the public consciousness for generations.

In Bob Woodward's book 'Fear' he documents the previous Trump administration. In the first chapter, Woodward describes Trump wanting to end the free trade agreement with South Korea. He was determined to do it, despite the fact that ending the agreement might have severely jeopardised the US's national security, as part of the agreement was that SK could give the USA a seven minute warning if NK launched a nuclear strike aimed at American soil. Without the agreement, the USA would be reliant on a warning from a base in Alaska that could only offer a 15 to 20 minute warning. Trump wholly failed to understand the significance of that risk and would not listen to any security advice.

In the end, Trump's own staff became determined to prevent the President from signing the document to end the free trade agreement with South Korea, and actively hid copies of it or intercepted them before they could reach Trump's desk for his signature. Woodward called the action an administrative coup d'état. I think what will happen is aides and WH staff will do what they can to actually limit Trump's decision making on serious issues, especially affecting national security. In the case of SK and the trade agreement, Trump eventually forgot about it and moved onto other things and his staff breathed a collective sigh of relief. Whether you think that's a good thing is a matter of opinion. I think it might be much harder for anyone to continue preventing such things during this next term.

That kind of jives with an interview I heard with 2 of the former Trump administration officials who signed the statement backing up General Kelly about Trump being a danger to the country. They didn't have stories that intense but they talked about how there was constant staring at each other in disbelief over the table in meetings, and how it became harder and harder to say no you can't do that. They said by 2019, half way through his presidency, he would fire anyone who was contrary to him and their fear is now in a 2nd term he'll make sure they're all yes men.

@robingoodfellow it's a facet that Trump voters don't see or refuse to accept about him. His main advisor practically had a nervous breakdown because they'd prime Trump to face the press and keep on message and Trump would walk down the corridor to the press briefing and by the time he'd arrived at the end of the corridor he was saying the complete opposite of what he was meant to say. The aide said bluntly that Trump does have severe psychological problems that were causing his staff to have their own mental health problems in response.

@Richard65 So basically, Donald Trump is not fit for office. This can be seen so clearly by the literate and those who still value basic common sense and a leaning towards certified facts. Which itself points towards exactly what is required in those who have just voted for him.

"Him" a documented liar, a spinner of misinformation and a twisting of any actual.situation so that it falls into the focus of an infantile mind dominated by egomania.

@LesDawsonsPiano I agree completely, but the American electorate called it, so there he is. To be honest, the Dems were a car crash, and whoever is in office, it'll still be a Corporatocracy. All we can do is hold on tight for the roller coaster ride that's imminent.

@Richard65 You're SO right about how the grown ups saved the nation. In many ways. Won't happen this time. He'll surround himself with extremists who won't question him.
One thing the Democrats didn't do, and it was a huge mistake, was not driving the point home that the sausage gets made in Congress. By not pushing hard for down ballot votes Trump is teed up to do his worst.
