Ever heard of Paris syndrome?

“ Paris Syndrome as a state of complete culture shock. Tourists from Japan are especially susceptible to having a disappointing experience in Paris because of how the city has been idealized in Japanese pop culture and media.”

😂😂
This is why I always tell people to never set expectations in life
when you set Expectations(of any kind ) there is a great chance you end up disappointed and unhappy

I think Paris has to be lived to be appreciated, not visited
Some people were exceedingly rude to us in Paris when we spoke English, as soon as we reverted to our other tongue they weren’t. However some people were friendly regardless.
@CrystalSkull When we went to Paris, it was about 40 years after I had taken a year of French in college. For each encounter with a store clerk, waiter, etc, I prepared a sentence in French and then they came right back in English politely. All I had to to was make an effort in French and then I was treated politely.

Oh, and we had a marvelous time, strolling the quieter streets, buying crepes to eat as we walked, smoothies, pastries, etc.
@ElwoodBlues we also did.
I went when I was 17, with classmates. I had no expectations and had never been to Europe previously. We had a great time and they were really nice to us. It wasn’t until years later that people told me that the French were notoriously rude. That wasn’t my experience. My mother said it had never been her experience there, either.
@bijouxbroussard Paris n'est pas la France, though, there are so many much nicer towns in France.
@bijouxbroussard Did you speak a tiny bit of French at that time? I found that a little bit of French went a long way towards polite interactions in Paris.

I had a disappointing time in Paris because it was cold and wet, the natives were miserable and someone tried to snatch my wife’s bag.

Never going back.

Not surprising 😂 Paris is the last place I would think to visit cos it seems so cliche

My friend suffered this in Brussels last month. Decided unimpressed lmao.

I prefer Berlin over Paris to be honest
