@akindheart I have kind of a nostalgic memory of my last few times...it was with my wife, and she recently passed away...we had been talking about going back. We did a Viking River cruise last time, started in Paris and ended in Prague, another great city.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Docdon23 I am so sorry. how sad. I love Prague and Budapest. absolutely amazing cities
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Docdon23 @akindheart I still have a painting purchased from a Montmartre street artist 50+ years ago. And an old hotel memory :) During that era when France was still part of the military part of NATO I pulled multiple extended periods at nearby Evreux and enjoyed quite a few visits to Paris. During one period the military base had to do a flush out and maintenance on their boilers, and had shut off all hot water for a week. So my long weekend in Paris was in part for the pleasure of a hot shower. So a popular hotel where the room rates went down as you went up. With the cheapest rooms on the 10th floor and above.
So first things first, a hot shower! So I turn on the shower and the only water I got was a drip. Hot, but a teaspoon every few seconds. Duhhh, not enough water pressure to make it to the upper floors on most days. That's why they were less expensive.

London is beautiful but a bit crowded for my taste …
I love Barcelona, Spain and Florence, Italy

Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that.
I can imagine what you’re describing here. Though I didn’t get any hallucinations, I was literally speechless when I first saw the Doumo. I was standing outside, staring.

For me, it will be Lisbon and Budapest.
I must have visited Lisbon 7x since 2013. I usually make it my stopover hub to anywhere in Europe.

Madrid and Rome…..great food, cool people👌🏽
@akindheart me too… amazing tapas. My husband loves the Barcelona vibe but I enjoy Madrid more…
akindheart · 61-69, F
@BloviatingBuffoon did you go to El Prado? Reina Sophia or El Escorial?
@akindheart nope , my son was a toddler then so we avoided touristy activities and we stayed for a day and a half. So it’s more of eating out, drink etc 🙃 all I remember is I can see the palace from our balcony hotel.

@akindheart I found the people in Paris very friendly if you tried to speak their language! I did terribly, but they all seemed to appreciate the effort!
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Starduster79 i have been to your last 3! i am going to Paris, Belgium and Amsterdam in August. my son lives near Germany
akindheart · 61-69, F
@fanuc2013 i only had one year of French but i sure would try!
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
I haven't been to Europe but live in the US, been to Mexico and Canada. So out of those 3 places I prefer the USA because its so diverse with different weather and topography. I love Washington, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota the best.
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
I'll have to check out North Dakota. @Heartlander 👍
BeJeweled · 61-69, F

To visit? Probably Paris.
Probably because of the general friendliness of the French people.
In general, I like everywhere I've been, or lived. No negatives.
I spent about 6 months in Saigon during the war and loved it also. Not the war part, but the people and the excitement.
London was good for all the tourist must see things. I spent a few months at RAF Mildenhall but didn't have enough free time to really explore beyond . I love British dry humor :)
Every place has its own appeal so it's difficult to compare.

Detroit. Aw, just kiddin'. I love London. Love Paris. Love Barcelona. Love Rome. But if i had to pick just one place to go back to, it would be Florence, even though I ate way too much there and drank way too much wine.
I'm slated for Tokyo and Seoul this summer. Can't wait! I may have a new favorite after that trip.
Anyone with more suggestions?

akindheart · 61-69, F
@DavyPNW my son is legally blind. he got really hit hard in Barcelona. but he knew what they were doing. they were surrounding him to take his money
DavyPNW · 56-60, M
@akindheart that id frightening. Tourists are pretty vulnerable even without disabilities.

I was only in London a few days but it was ultra cool. If I didn't live in NY I'd say that.

@SW-User that's crazy. what was he thinking? i guess not thinking with the brain on his shoulders

@akindheart for like 2 days our idiot former mayor made the kiosks on the city sidewalks net accessible. You guessed it - lawn chairs sprouted up everywhete and it was big booty non-stop until they were shut off 😁
akindheart · 61-69, F
@SW-User crazy. that is NOT ok
jim44444 · 70-79, M
I am not as well traveled as you and many others. I have been to many cities in North America and most are quite pleasant.
My hands down favorite though is Key West, FL. There is great food, good fishing and characters.

I haven't been out of my own country. 😞 But the cities I have loved visiting were Boston Massachusetts, Greenwich Connecticut, Seattle Washington, and St. Augustine Florida.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@DearAmbellina2113 i have been to all of them but CT. love them all. Seattle is a little druggie though
ReneeT · 61-69, F
I would have to say London is my favorite also. But I would go back to Vienna or Dublin anytime
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@LeeInTheNorthWoods You hit one of my favorite "get up and dance" songs: Galway Girl
akindheart · 61-69, F
[@ReneeT Been to Vienna many times. it was voted one of the best cities in the world! i stayed near Schoennbrunn Palace

But I adored Liverpool

I spent the most time on the West Coast of Ireland though
There is so much to enjoy and love about being in so many places....

akindheart · 61-69, F
@graphite they had quite the reputation the first time. they were downright nasty then something changed.

@akindheart The fact that I didn't speak French wasn't even an obstacle. Didn't need to.
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
Used to enjoy Chicago but now prefer Boston!
LeeInTheNorthWoods · 70-79, F
@2ndtimeguy It seems Chicago has become a pretty scary place. I now know three people who were the victims of crime while visiting Chicago. Friends and I used to love Chicago for music, live theater, and just wandering around the downtown area. It's also a great place to overeat. ☺️
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@LeeInTheNorthWoods So many places have turned sour over the years. We spent a big Thanksgiving weekend in Chicago 20 years ago and we were so impressed. Sad.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@LeeInTheNorthWoods my sister lives there. she can't carry a purse due to crime. I love boston due to the history but they are having the SATANCOM and I won't go near it.
