Question for conservatives who support the Florida parental rights bill

Given the language of the bill, how should a teacher answer a question from a first grade student about why Billy has two dads and no mom?

Does the teacher just say they can't talk about that? Is that the kind of censorship you really want in our schools?

According to that law the teacher can answer that question. No where in the bill does it say they can’t discuss homosexuality. It says gender identity and sexual orientation can’t be taught or instructed in K-3.

As a teacher though I would be careful about talking to any student about another student’s parents. Direct the student to ask his/her own parents.

@JesseInTX homosexuality is a sexual orientation and answering questions is instruction.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco instruction is presenting a lesson in something, in this case homosexuality, to the entire class. Answering one student’s question is not instruction.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@JesseInTX what schools were giving class wide instruction on those topics? Was that even a problem? My Florida kids never got those lessons. And I don't think it would be harmful if they did.

I don’t think six-year-olds need to be talking about sexuality with their teachers. At least wait for the sex ed class. @ViciDraco
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@zerofuks2give exactly.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco I’m not in Florida so I’m not familiar with the standard curriculum for K-3. What I have done is read the law and know that it’s being misrepresented by democrats intentionally.

@zerofuks2give @JesseInTX what is wrong with starting sex Ed in kindergarten or first grade with age appropriate lessons? The Nordic model, for example.
In the Netherlands, sex education starts as early as age four, with kids learning about basic ideas like sexuality, appropriate touching, and intimacy. At age eight, kids progress to learning about gender stereotypes, and at age 11 an introduction to contraception and sexual identity begins.
@ViciDraco so send your kids to that school. You have options.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
@ViciDraco My question is, why do you wanna talk about sex with 6 year old children so badly? Seems kind of suspicious. Why don’t we let them just be kids for a while. Sounds like a real easy way for pedophiles to start grooming children 🤷🏻‍♂️
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco Nordics can do what they want in their country. This is America and the States decide on appropriate education for their students. There’s absolutely no place for sex education for 4 year olds in my opinion. Sex education should start with the parents.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@zerofuks2give they want to teach them to hate the color of their skin.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@zerofuks2give don't have a good answer so you are hiding behind the pedophile argument. Proper sex education at a young age helps kids identify and guard against pedophiles. Why are you against teaching kids what sexual abuse might look like? Awfully suspicious that you don't want to teach kids about how to identify sexual predators.

See how easy that turnaround is? This hiding behind a fear of pedos misdirection is incredibly transparent. Might be more effective if we didn't keep stumbling over conservatives caught preying on minors.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
@ViciDraco whatever man. If you wanna talk to six-year-old old girls about sex, you go right ahead, see where that gets you. 🤷🏻‍♂️
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco
Proper sex education at a young age helps kids identify and guard against pedophiles.
Anybody that wants to talk about sex to 4, 5, 6, 7 year old kids is the pedophile.
zerofuks2give · 41-45, M
@JesseInTX Some of these kids haven’t even mastered potty training or tying their shoes and this guy thinks they’re ready to talk about sex 🙄 ffs 🤦🏼‍♂️
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@JesseInTX @zerofuks2give so all of the Netherlands are pedophiles? Good to know.

Also good to know that you cannot talk about sex clinically without intention to have it. Sounds like you guys have a problem.
@JesseInTX
According to that law the teacher can answer that question. No where in the bill does it say they can’t discuss homosexuality.
The bill is left intentionally vague. It doesn't literally say "you can't say gay," but it does say teachers can be sued if they talk about inappropriate things related to sexuality and gender. So this hypothetical teacher could be sued for saying that some kids have two fathers or two mothers.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@BohemianBoo which is why I also said
As a teacher though I would be careful about talking to any student about another student’s parents. Direct the student to ask his/her own parents
@JesseInTX And you don't think that's a ridiculous level of censorship? Are gay people really that scary?
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@BohemianBoo don’t put words in my mouth. Gay people aren’t scary at all. My point is the parent should broach that topic, along with any other topic pertaining to another student’s parents.
@JesseInTX Why? What's wrong with a teacher saying that some men marry other men?
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@BohemianBoo the parent should decide how to handle that subject with their child. Have you missed throughout this whole thread of comments that is my position?
@JesseInTX Why? Why should the parents decide how to handle this one particular subject, as opposed to all the other things kids learn in school?
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@BohemianBoo this isn’t a school subject it’s about the personal life of another student’s parents. And apparently you missed where I said any other topic pertaining to another student’s parents. Personal lives are not school subjects.
@JesseInTX So I know this is just about you being afraid of the gay, but what you're describing would be a major overhaul of education. Most schools actually do allow kids to discussion their families in the form of class discussions, school projects, homework, and so on. Sometimes, when there's a death in the family of a child it affects the class, and a counselor will come in to have a discussion.
The amount of gymnastics you're gonna have to do is much more than you think.
