I am pritteeee Pritteeee PRITTEEE stoked. I have been feeling very overwhelmed with many situations in life, lately...but

I have become majorly convicted that I want my life to MEAN something, and I want to be called according to God's PURPOSE....

The more overwhelmed I feel, the more I realize there are others even more overwhelmed, without access to the resources I have.

I felt called to go to church today....My soul NEEDED the reprieve from normal stresses. I would come more often, but things are pretty awkward with my parents, and it is 50 miles round trip.

It was awesome to see that they had various stands set up in the church courtyard, to describe how people can serve. I don't have money to give, but I went up to the refugee booth and told them I have 2 bedrooms I can offer.

They lit up, and it felt like Christmas day! Apparently a 40-something Iranian woman has been seeking a place to stay, and has merely had a temporary couch upon which to lay her head.

They said that they will provide food for her, work opportunities, even a mattress...but that she just needs peaceful shelter. This fits perfectly with the meager amount I can do right now.

I also signed up for the Light the Night prom in February. I will be a check-in person for otherly abled kids to get to enjoy prom at church!! I cannot really fathom MUCH more joyful than happy kids in a room with people just like themselves, dancing.

I would love to be involved in the prison ministry, but it is about an hour away and may not work with my schedule. But this was just such a great day!!!

High five from the leftcoast,Tex ! I'm glad your breakthrough is happening on so many practical levels.
I do worry about your emotional balance at times. Selfless action is a bona fide remedy for that when opportunity presents. I'm sure you will benefit from learning firsthand bits about her culture as well.
I'm also feeling supported by certain folks lately in a few community projects which I've been behind on actualizing...As the cliched truism goes~teamwork makes the dreamwork.

You might look into prison pen pal opportunities. Not a heap of effort involved.
Your way with words could really brighten up an inmate's outlook and meaningful correspondence is like gold currency in the slammer. (I'd advise connecting with a female to deter the scamming and drama which is rife in that population, though.)
I do need to reconnect with Ramblin' Larry to help bring the AA message into the Mendocino County jail.
For some reason our local program is in disarray, and I was deterred by the 4hr roundtrip drive... but yo,this is a potentially life-saving thing we do.Would'nt the old me drive for hours and hours to go get wasted?!? ahem.

Our community Dia De Los Muertos was splendind today, free tamales and music that didn't suck.
A few more dear departeds went up on the altar and the weather was fine and new volunteers helped from setup till cleanup, which I'm not exactly used to. Win.

You posting about meaningful action in a faith-based framework kicks a few more bricks out of my agnostic wall and helps make me feel proud to be an American...which has been touch-and-go these days,ya dig? Blessings on your journey.

@dubkebab I feel you. Boy do I feel you!

I am Catholic and God knows (yes He does) that the Roman Catholic Church has had it's share of failings. But I help out with Catholic Charities and so much good work gets done here through that organization.

So when you say a brick has fallen from your agnostic wall, in my life my work with Catholic Charities helps restore in small ways, maybe one brick at a time, faith in the parent organization. It will take a while, but coming together to help one another helps us as humans. 🫂

@dubkebab omg soo much to respond to here..i get slightly overwhelmed..will need to respond tmrw when i have had sleep! thank you for the kind words!!
dubkebab · 56-60, M
@foldedunfolding I'm sleep deprived as well and more than a bit nauseated today, but we'll talk when we talk. In the morning I'm painting Mike's new shed and then running sound for a symposium called something like-"the role of the artist in addressing climate change" I'm predicting not a lot of laughter at that podium after yesterday. But the moon is a neat little crescent right now and the cats seem content.

@JohnnyNoir aww thank you..i love it bc they would pretty much have tabs on her, you know? i dont have to worry she will be a super bad tenant or bad person, most likely..plus it is a rare situation where i don't have to spend any real money or separate time. I can see her when she is here, maybe drive her a few places if necessary..but i can help merely by existing and working from home! when i looked into soup kitchen work and such, they wanted me there 4am to noon! i couldn't do something like that AND work.

@gregloa aw thanks, i hope she can transition comfortably into this country. i cant fathom how hard it would be to not know the language..to not have a job..a place to stay..not to mention this political climate....
