Stephen Hawking said nothing existed before the Big Bang and he's speaking of the known universe, many are refuting this now. How can you get something from nothing. (Not a part of this conversation but the origin of life on Earth through the process of abiogenesis mean that life came from none life, it just sprung up from chemicals, the primordial soup mix.)
Since nothing existed before the Big Bang the universe was DARK. And the Big Bang singularity occurred and there was a burst of cosmic microwave radiation light that lit up the entire universe, not the light that can be seen by the eyes, this light is invisible to humans and if could be viewed during that time the Big Bang singularity occurred it was extremely, extremely, extremely bright. Visible, viewable light came into existence millions of years later. The Bible says it was DARKNESS all around and God said LET THERE BE LIGHT.

People only think about the visible light, with the right equipment in one can still see the remnants of the cosmic microwave radiation light. God does not need visible light.
God is light, light is energy, God is energy. The law of conservation says energy cannot be created and cannot be destroyed but can change from one form to another, God was not created nor can he be destroyed but he can change from one form to the other.

What we refer to as God's light is apart from his creation of the light that brought forth physical matter. God is Not a physical being.
The type of light God is is so brilliant that man cannot look upon him and live and if man was to actually look upon the brilliance of the cosmic radiation light at the time of the Big Bang singularity he would die.
Everything in existence comes from God. Everything in existence is a part of God but separate.
