How can we be certain life began 6000 yrs ago?

Because each family name is named in the Bible from Adam 4000 yrs ago to Jesus' birth. And when Jesus was born 2024 yrs ago then time started over, it was year 1, 2024 years ago! That is how we know!
The Bible is very detailed, with every name in the Old Testament and also in the new is named until Jesus. AMAZING!

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

25 Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of Nagge,

26 Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Juda,

27 Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son of Neri,

28 Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of Er,

29 Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi,

30 Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of Eliakim,

31 Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,

32 Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,

33 Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of Juda,

34 Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,

35 Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

36 Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,

37 Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan,

38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. Luke 3

The oldest mummy found is 9400 years old
There are fishhooks older than that from Alaska / Pacific Northwest.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@SomeMichGuy My dad probably had a few of those, he kept everything.
@Adrift

I love that!

You: [rummaging through a drawer in a corner of the basement; your face lights up as you lift some things into the dim light] Hey Dad! What are THESE?

Dad: [comes over, peering over his glasses as he examines what you have] Oh...THESE...yeah...I wondered where those got to. Those are fishhooks.

You: Fishhooks...really? They must be OOOOLD!

Dad: [bemused] Yeah...pretty old...

You: Ok, how old?

Dad: [lowers his voice, conspiratorially] I got these from the guy who invented them...

You: Huh...?

Dad: Fishhooks. Up in what you now call Alaska. Thought it was a good idea. Traded him some pretty rocks for these.

Food for thought::: before Adam sinned there was no need to give a history of his life - or his eating of the Tree of Life - or his offspring before he sinned. The very first commandment was to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the Earth. ** 99.97% of the Bible is about Adam's life after he sinned -It has been just over 6,000 years since Adam sinned.

You say the Bible is very detailed - the Bible doesn't say Adam and Eve had any children other than Cain & Abel.... yet Cain move to a land called Nod (which already had a name, why is that) and married his wife.... Since Eve did not have any children other than Cain and Abel - who were the people (people is plural) that Cain feared would kill him and that God told the people not to kill Cain. And remember, the Bible says specifically Eve is the mother of all the living - so God didn't create a different set of people.... Food for thought!

@SDavis Maybe Adam and Eve didn't have any more children, because whenever he was able she was raisin' cane. 🤭
The fragility of this statement is hilarious.

Life has been around for a lot longer than that

Define 'life'.

Carazza you must be studying the Bible years to know all of that

@riseofthemachine Thanks, Studying the Bible is so fun. I believe God wrote it for us to have hope. Jesus is coming back very soon because he told us he would come at the end. I think we are at the end and he will come maybe within 5 years.

@Carazaa Are there any Jewish fairytales you don't believe in? You know that their fairytale claims that the world will end in the year 6000. That is only 216 years from now.

Well, well. If we are using books as evidence, here is proof positive of the existence of Captain D'Artagnan of the King's Musketeers.

Oh, sure. Let's ignore literally all of science and put our faith in a book that was cobbled together by some iron age sheep herders instead.

@LordShadowfire It is a paid position; otherwise, you would be gone. You have a better position than most. Your dad is still the Chairman of a housing rental business. I would not let him get a whiff of your annoyance with the noise he makes eating his dinner. Get a pair of fancy earphones and pair it to the TV via blue-tooth.

@sree251 You know, you and I don't often get along, but you're right.

Of course, I'm right. It may be too late to work around your dad to get into his good graces. You need to inherit his business or, at least, take over from him instead of being his Man Friday (see Robinson Crusoe). You are not getting younger. And don't take for granted that you are his only option. Seems like I am more concerned about your future than you.
