Christians: In your honest, non-antagonistic opinion, why do you think that atheists are atheist?

I encourage Christians to answer honestly and Atheists to respond with correction or affirmation without either party taking things personally or becoming combative.
Me:

No evidence that convinces me. And what convinces someone else will not convince me. I have different standards and I expect a god to know that. And trust me I keep looking for stuff even now. But I have ended up tricking myself before. I'm not going to do it again just because I want something to be true. I go by the saying of; extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I expect an actual god to be so obvious that no one has doubt.

Which leads into the claim of Romans 1:20 and that everything is obvious and atheist's are without excuse and actually do believe but just want to sin. In fact one can turn the whole argument around and say people only want to be Christians so a god will forgive them of their crimes and they can keep sinning as long as they are convinced Jesus is real.

Then their is the excuse of hardening your heart against god and that god is trying to talk to you but you are just ignoring him because you hate him. My response is, you mean like god did to pharaoh so he could show off? Also a person can hate the character of god and still not believe in him. Just like I hated Snape in the HP books when I first read him. Doesn't make Snape real just cause I hated him.

And then free will. Again like Pharaoh? Or a rapist choosing to rape but the victim's will being ignored by god but the rapist will being listened to by god. Looks like a persons will is only honored randomly and its usually the bad person's will that gets honored.

And then the whole idea of sin is an entire crap shoot depending on who you ask. I have seen everything from atheists, Satanists and porn addicts all the way to gamers, vegans and even children go to hell on those lists.

So taking together no evidence, the immorality of the followers, and the holes in all of the bible and their arguments how exactly do they expect me to just stop thinking and simply do what I'm told. As someone with a mental illness that is exactly the way my illness has always acted.
@Pikachu Agreed. Heck I wouldn't even worship something or someone I did love because worship is so archaic and outdated. No one worships anymore. Respect and or revere, maybe. But getting down on the ground and prostrating yourself and begging something not to hurt you or your loved ones is so mentally ill that the only person that would even ask such a thing from another would be a literal psychopathic narcissist. And for someone that claims unconditional love there sure are a lot of conditions.

I really think a lot of this started with the unpredictability of nature and the era of the God Kings. They had to appease narcissistic god kings this way so they assumed a king of the universe would act the same way. Which only gets reinforced when you look at the randomness of nature. You pray and worship but a crop failure still happens. God doesn't talk so you go into guessing games laying face down in the dirt for mercy and the next thing you know you are sacrificing a person while screaming to the sky IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? LOOK HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU! JUST PLEASE DONT HURT ME!

That kind of sheer mental anguish and trauma seems to have given the collective unconscious PTSD.
@canusernamebemyusername

There is a documented correlation between difficult circumstances and increased religiosity.
@Pikachu Yeah. That's just weird to me but something I have noticed as well.

I think for most of us our beliefs are influenced by our environment and experiences
@GJOFJ3

Yup. Those are the big influences alright lol.

Have you taken trigonometry?
Ok, do you still go to a class on it every week? And do you pay the school ten percent of your income for the going to that class?

Religion should be treated like math. You get trained your done. You get the certificate. You're through.

For some reason religion insists that you keep attending class. People say no. I'm done. But then they're called atheists because they won't play the game.

And then there's the creed. It's over five hundred years old and full of nonsense. People aren't going to go along with it anymore.
@Tastyfrzz

lol interesting take on it.

@Longpatrol

A Pikachu can dream!
I think the reasons vary. Some started as Christians and then didn't believe it anymore, sometimes due to experiences within the church. Some never did believe it. And some wanted to believe it but weren't convinced.
@midnightrose

Yup, those all sound like atheists i've known.

Should someone who believes in what our culture would call a supernatural origin of the physical universe, but not call that a god, be considered an atheist? The postulated Big Bang coming from an infinitely small spec, and forming the entire universe is basically supernatural...
@walabby

lol gonna skip right on by that can of worms and just say yes you can believe in the supernatural and still be an atheist.
Atheism describes only one specific thing: the position of belief regarding the existence of gods.

@Pikachu Looks like I'm an atheist then.. XD
@walabby

Congratulations😉

@jshm2

lol ok so i think you'd agree that was fairly antagonistic.
If you'd like to respond to the question posed in this thread or even rephrase your issue in a less confrontational way then we can carry on a civil discussion🙂

@jshm2 I think she's asking what you think the causal chain is, not whether or not atheists have a right to exist.

@Pikachu Saw a reddit by guy with schizophrenia talking about his religious father. Apparently they were supposed to be fasting and not eating meat but the son decided to cook some type of meat and his father had a fit saying there were demons in the meat and you cant eat it when fasting or you'll get possessed. And yet the father is supposed to be the mentally healthy one here:/
So yeah Satan is everywhere. Did you know the mcdonalds arches arent actually arches but instead is a giant M that stands for Molach, murrrderrrrr and MMORPG. That's why gamers are actually going to hell.

@Pikachu Got any bells UwU
