When you say you're a Christian, what does that mean? Do you actually follow Christ or are you a Christian in name only?

The prophet Isaiah said:

In that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, “We will eat our own food and wear our own apparel; Only let us be called by your name . Take away our disgrace!"

What does it mean to be a Christian? Good question!

It means that I have been changed by God. I see that God is Holy, I am a sinner, that Jesus died for the world, and rose again.

The Holy Spirit changed my heart, so I live for heaven not this world.
I have love for all people, and I want them to go to heaven too.

God hears my prayers and answers them. He is my provider, my helper, and my healer.

There seems to be many Christian’s who never set foot in a church. Maybe that’s why they all look creepy and abandoned.
@Ceinwyn Are you claiming that the bible was written by Greeks and Romans?
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
@RocktheHouse I’d say there were a great many sources and influences.

The final edits had plenty to do with them. What was removed, what remained.

@Ceinwyn @Ceinwyn What question? That non Christians go to church? Yes they do and they have all kinds of motivations. Even the birds of the air nest in the church belfry. Not sure what you question is all about. Each individual it different and has different motivations. I suspect without evidence that many of the non Christian church attendees are kind of like you. They think this is an easy way to set their morals straight. All they need to do is read a book and listen to a few lectures.

What does that saying have to do with Christianity? What is your answer to the same two questions?
@LadyGrace Only let us be called by your name (Christian).

Being a Christian is a lifestyle, not just a belief. We all have flaws that we need to work on. We will never be perfect but let's continue to pray and try to live our lives accordingly. It's not easy being a Christian today. The bible says Satan would imprison us and test us. We are already imprisoned and being tested. If you haven't denied the faith yet, you are in it for the long haul.
LadyGrace · 70-79
@RocktheHouse I still don't see where that verse fits in at all.

Yes. Being a Christian is a lifestyle and yes, we all have things we need to work on. I do pray and live my life according to His Word. Of course we're not perfect. Jesus doesn't expect us to be and He knew we couldn't be, but we can strive to do our best in all ways. Satan is always trying to pursuade people to sin. Not just Christians. If I haven't denied the faith yet??? I'm in for the long haul. I've faced many trials and challenges. Many hard times. I'm not a part-time Christian or secret disciple. I'm not ashamed of Christ or His message.
LadyGrace · 70-79
That means I'm happily 100% dedicated to Him daily, who gave His life and best for me. I cannot give Him less. Not because I have to. Because I want to. There is no fear in perfect love. God's love is pure and perfect. No one will ever love us like Jesus.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
It means that I rely on the Anointing to guide my life and not the lusts of my heart. It means that I rely entirely upon Jesus Christ for my salvation and guidance. It means I surrender to God and stand against the world.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
It means you pretend there is an invisible skydaddy. It also means you pick which parts you like and shove it in the face of others proclaiming you follow it even if you do not. Further it is a means of proclaiming forgiveness when you wrong others and expect it from others no matter how many times you do it.
It also is a shield you try to use when foisting your evilness upon them as if you were directed by some myth so therefore it was justified.
@MasterLee I agree with 90% of what you said. If Christianity is a religion that is all about "salvation" and claiming that "Jesus died for me, so I can do whatever I want..." That is a worthless religion. It's worse than a worthless religion. It makes people think they can do other people wrong and get away with it.
@MasterLee That is not what Christ taught. Those people are Christian in name only.
Budwick · 70-79, M
Jesus is Lord, I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.

I think that those of us who profess to be Christians follow Christ in our thoughts and prayers and actions, as far as we are able.

As to whether our churches, one or the other, are only interested in making money, and not truly following the ways of Christ Jesus, God will decide on the last day.
@4meAndyou I love that last part. So many Christians seem to believe they have the authority to judge/condemn others. Only God can truly discern the intends of the heart and we can rest assured that he will judge righteously.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Funny thing is that 'judgement' is too often in the eyes of the judged and not in the eyes of the one allegedly doing the judging. I have had people yell at me to stop judging them. I never said a word to them and honestly didn't know they existed until they started yelling. I have had an entire church come forward at the altar call in repentance and renewal except one person who thought I was judging. He punched me in the face as he judged me as being judgemental.
@hippyjoe1955 Do you think it's because they look at the way you are living your life and deep down, it makes them feel shame? People like to bring others down to their level. Which is why if you're not engaging in the vices of the world, they will make you feel like an outcast. Virtue has become taboo.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RocktheHouse I think it is the Spirit you bear. Remember Paul and the demonic woman? He had just walked into the town. He hadn't said a word to anyone. The spirits in the woman recognized the Spirit in Paul.
karysma · 31-35, F
Being Christian to me is oneness with Christ and the relationship I have with him.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Being a Christian is to be forgiven by Yahweh through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ the Second Person in the Triune God and being imbued with the Holy Spirit granting us the Grace to accomplish Yahweh's Purpose in our lives.
Adstar · 56-60, M
When i say i am a Christian i am declaring that i believe God and trust in the atonement The LORD Jesus secured by His death on the cross that paid the penalty that was upon me for my transgressions against the will of God...

Oh yeah in the end times there will be wars and talk of wars and a lot of men will die.. So it is quite possible that woman will out number the surviving men 7 to 1..
Story of my life.
@BohemianBabe lol. Were you raised in a religious home?
@RocktheHouse Yes. And I spend most of my time taking away people's disgrace.

@CopperCicada The world can have an opinion about you but it's God's opinion that stands. Everything else is trash
