Hypocrites

It seems that some people love to boast about how they love the biblical God (they never use his name) and Jesus but they flip out when their hypocrisy is exposed.

A typical case in point =

[removed by staff] Why are you deleting your God's commandments? Do you want to end up in the lake of fire?

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (ERV) =
Children Who Refuse to Obey
"18 “A man might have a son who is stubborn and refuses to obey. This son does not obey his father or mother. They punish the son, but he still refuses to listen to them. 19 His father and mother must then take him to the leaders of the town at the town meeting place. 20 They must say to the leaders of the town: ‘Our son is stubborn and refuses to obey. He does not do anything we tell him to do. He eats and he drinks too much.’ 21 Then the men in the town must kill the son with stones. By doing this you will remove this evil from your group. Everyone in Israel will hear about this and be afraid."

Exodus 21:15 (NKJV) =
“And he who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

Jesus said that people had to follow all of the commandments, so what is up with the picking and choosing?

Matthew 7:26-27 (NKJV) =26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

I lost a post responding to comment by a poster on another thread who stated how wonderful the Bible is so I will rephrase it here.

I merely pointed out that if you want to follow the biblical God and gain his mercy that you have to do everything that he commands because he said that his laws were forever.

Jesus repeated that in Matthew 5:19 (ERV) =“A person should obey every command in the law, even one that does not seem important. Whoever refuses to obey any command and teaches others not to obey it will be the least important in God’s kingdom. But whoever obeys the law and teaches others to obey it will be great in God’s kingdom."

When I pointed out that the biblical laws state a child who strikes one of his parents must be killed =

Exodus 21:15 (ERV) =
“Whoever hits their father or their mother must be killed."

That also includes cursing them =

Exodus 21:17 (ERV) =
“Whoever curses their father or mother must be killed."

So, if people say that they believe in Jesus why do they refuse to obey his teaching in Matthew 5:19 that specifically states that believers are required to obey every command in the law?

@Diotrephes We are to honor our parents yes, but we have no punishment in the next life if we love Jesus. The laws of capital punishment, stoning, slaves, and selling children in marriage is a foreshadow of Jesus. It is important to understand that Jesus abolished the works, but not the love 🙂 It is all a shadow of the new heaven and the new earth. Hard to understand but easy peezy for saved people.

Jesus was sent to us by His Father, God, to make it possible for us to be forgiven for our many sins and lapses. If we are truly sorry for our sins...REALLY contrite, and if we ask Jesus to intervene with our Father, God, on our behalf, He will. Jesus did not hang out with the pharisees, who thought themselves perfect. He hung out with sinners. If we ask forgiveness, Jesus DOES expect us to stop sinning...but even for repeat offenders, forgiveness is possible with daily contrition.

Jesus came as the lamb of God...the sacrifice that God (Yahweh), made, to make it possible for HIM to forgive us. He cannot forgive us on His own...because He can't allow us to flaunt His laws...but if His beloved son turns to Him, and begs for mercy on our behalf, then we might be forgiven.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@4meAndyou Why do you deny the written words of the Bible that you claim to believe? If you refuse to believe that why should anyone believe anything in it?

Jesus said that he had only been sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Matthew 15:24 (CEB) = 24 Jesus replied, “I’ve been sent only to the lost sheep, the people of Israel.”

Are you saying that he didn't know what he was saying? Who did he say his Apostles would judge in Matthew 19:28? I don't see one word about Gentiles=
Matthew 19:28 (ERV)= "28 Jesus said to them, “When the time of the new world comes, the Son of Man will sit on his great and glorious throne. And I can promise that you who followed me will sit on twelve thrones, and you will judge the twelve tribes of Israel."
4meAndyou · F
@Diotrephes Yes, of Gentiles too” ( Romans 3:29 ). Jesus was the Jewish Messiah, but He had come to offer salvation to everybody. The Messiah was to be a “light for the Gentiles” ( Isaiah 42:6 ). So call on Jesus, because “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” ( Acts 2:21
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@4meAndyou They had to seek new customers because to original targeted customer base wasn't buying what they were selling.

And lines such as Acts 2:21 gave the Crusaders hope when they went off to fight the Muslims in the "Holy Land."

Jesus is supposed to be the son of God and lots of people worship him as a supreme deity, which is completely counter to Old Testament doctrine.

But have you ever noticed how the story-tellers gummed up the story?

They made Jesus, the son of God, a disciple of the Old Testament barely-mentioned Melchizedek, the chief priest of some cult whose main claim to fame was getting 10% of the murdering and thieving Abraham's loot.

Hebrews 6:20 (GNV) = Whither the forerunner is for us entered in, even Jesus that is made an high Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

So, here's the son of God, Jesus, worshiped as a supreme deity, who is a member of a mysterious guy's cult who set the 10% tithe rule.

According to the way the biblical God is portrayed he is a liar and deceiver. For instance, he supposedly gave Moses 613 commandments, most of which are immoral by our standards. After all, man allegedly ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and know as much as God knows about those issues.

Later on God reveals that he gave all of those bad laws because people are stupid and gullible and should have had sense enough to know that the laws were bad and should not have been followed.

So, the biblical God character has a record of being a self-admitted liar. How can anything in the fairy tale attributed to him be trusted?
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I think most people know the Bible is a load of crap even if they can't admit it.
@hunkalove 👀
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@hunkalove I actually think that the Bible is a beautifully written story. It is very complex. As I've said before, all of the stories in the Old & New Testaments are based on one or more of the real Ten Commandments found in Exodus 34:11-26. The problem is that the typical believer has never bothered to read the story, which is the easiest of all in the Bible. They prefer to get their religion from silly Hollywood movies and ignorant preachers.

It is essential to understand what the real Ten Commandments are otherwise the stories don't make any sense. The stories themselves don't have to make logical sense because they are merely mnemonic devices intended to quiz the listener, or the reader, about which of the real Ten Commandments the story is illustrating. Review them and read any story and you should be able to identify the Commandment. Some stories show the benefit of obeying while others show the consequences for disobeying. The Bible is all about complete obedience and total loyalty. It does not teach morality.

People think that the Bible is an ancient book but it was only written as a single book in the late 680s-early 690s by a committee of story tellers, writers, and artists based in England who produced three master copies, each weighing 75 pounds, written in Latin. One copy still exists. There is no legitimate copy of a Bible on this planet that predates that.

Christianity as a religion existed from about 40 A.D. It was mostly verbal, with a few scattered manuscripts in various locations as the Apostles moved around the area. But there was NO Bible of any kind.

In the early 7th Century the Arabs got the idea that they needed a God of their own to compete with the heathens, the Christians, and the Jews. Uthman got a committee together around 640 A.D. and it produced the Koran. Since the Christians didn't have a single book they needed one to counter the Islamic version so they got busy planning theirs. They even raised about 2,000 cattle for the vellum for their books.

The writers did an excellent job, flowing the story from beginning to end. They also included numerous clues indicating that it was all just an elaborate hoax. Around 1881 a committee revised the Bible and deleted the 14 books of the Apocrypha, which had been part of almost every Bible version since the 680s. And, around 1630 they changed the names of all of the major characters to make them more user-friendly. That is when the Jesus character became known as Jesus. It's an alias.

The more secular books do contain some timeless advice that could benefit people if they bothered to read it. For instance, Proverbs 1:8-19 is probably the best moral advice a person could ever teach a child. It is universal and timeless.

The Old Testament was given as a guide, but was replaced by the birth of Jesus and this was manifested at his crucifiction and the veil in the temple was torn top to bottom, signifying the end of the old.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Quimliqer So, God and Jesus were lying when they said the law was forever. I wonder why they didn't specify a shorter term instead of an absolute word like "forever?"

If they lied about that, maybe they lied about everything else. God was always lying and deceiving people just to show how clever he was. I hope he has gotten some mental health care by now because in the old days, he was a homicidal maniac lunatic. Clever people were always getting him to change his mind.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Quimliqer And then came Mohamed and the same thing happened all over again. All People of the God of Abraham.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
If he's a Christian, wrong god. They kind of take the Jewish god with a grain -- or barrel -- or salt. Pick and chose what they like, ignore the rest.

“Do not kill.”
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Carissimi Did you really miss the parts when God commands his henchmen to kill everyone and gets pissed when they show a little bit of mercy?

Ezekiel 9:5-6 (ERV) =
"Then I heard God say to the other men, “I want you to follow the first man. You must kill all those who do not have the mark on their foreheads. It doesn’t matter if they are elders, young men or young women, children or mothers—you must use your weapon and kill everyone who does not have the mark on their forehead. Don’t show any mercy. Don’t feel sorry for anyone. Start here at my Temple.” So they started with the elders in front of the Temple."

There are lots of such passages.
Carissimi · F
You mentioned The Ten Commandments. I cited one. What you make of it is up to you. @Diotrephes
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Carissimi "Do not kill" is not one of the real Ten Commandments. I have been through this numerous times. The real Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 34:11-26. Exodus 34:28 plainly says that the preceding verses are the real Ten Commandments =
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus+34%3A11-28&version=NKJV
The Ten Commandments are hard to follow in this format but pay attention to the word "shall," which indicates the action you are to take.

It might be a good idea to stop getting your religion from silly Hollywood movies like the 1956 movie The Ten Commandments.

You can read the entire story yourself, starting with Exodus chapter 19-Exodus 34. As you read, summarize every several verses in your own words. You will get to Exodus 31:18 before you see the stone tablets. After physically breaking them in Exodus chapter 32 and killing 3,000 people for practicing freedom of religion, God and Moses have a do-over in Exodus 34. That is where the real Ten Commandments are revealed.

Are you up to the challenge of reading it for yourself or do you want to remain willfully ignorant?
making others feel bad is not okay
Okay man.ignore it
