My nephew is being deployed

Next Tuesday to go to Latvia as part of Operation Reassurance where the Canadian armed forces contributes to NATO deterrence and defence measures

He’ll be completely safe but this is the first time anyone in our family has ever been deployed in the army so it’s a a new experience for us

I worked with many good people in the CF when I was on active duty in the US military. You can be rightly proud of his service in such an organization.

As for his deployment, the Baltics are an important defensive line for the West and Canadians have always stood proudly at the front lines of freedom and democracy.

He is certainly safer than our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, but the military is not a life people join in order to be safe. Even the training carries some risk. So I will add him and all the CF in the Baltics to my prayers. 🙏

My son has deployed to Iraq as a helo mechanic and Saudi Arabia as a helo crew chief. Next one will be as a Blackhawk helo Chief Warrant pilot.

I just tell myself he is doing what he chose to do.

He has also helped dump water on wildfires and rescue people from floods.

Latvians are lovely people. I used to work with one he was great guy.
Deployment isn’t for the faint of heart. Your family will be in my thoughts. Please thank him for his service.

@Pinkstarburst hopefully he will not see combat. I had a 2 year deployment when there was no Internet, armed forces by and radio were very limited. It wasn't easy.
@samueltyler2 I have memories of the phone ringing at two in the morning and my mom taking dad to the hangar. 18 months later the phone would ring and she would go pick him up. To this day, we don’t know half the places he went to.
@samueltyler2 thank you for your service!

He will be fine, and when he comes back home his mind and horizons will be enlighten from what he sees and learns country and culture wise as well.

@WillaKissing

Some cultures are extremely inferior to others. Thus why we have to deploy

@Thrust 😂😂😂 are you seriously suggesteing that the Latvian culture is inferior to that of the USA?
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Thrust yes, my father did two tours in the USA, training the locals.

I’m sure everything will work out ok, I know you all will miss him when he’s away though.
Godspeed! Thank him for his service! Whats his specialty?
Yulianna · 26-30, F
🇺🇦 honour to those who serve!

Remember, you don’t want to give too much information for the troops safety in the USA it’s called OPSEC a.k.a. operations security!!
Thrust · 56-60, M
Praying, and proud, for him 🫂
