f4 mac donnell douglas phantom

DogMan · 61-69, M
Ok Folk's those that said F-4 Phantom are correct. It's a 1966 model F-4D.

That is the trim pad at Barbers Point NAS in Hawaii. We had 10 F-4's over there
for 5 glorious weeks, showing the Navy guys how an REAL fighter squadron works. 😄
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DogMan 1st Bn, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, I Corps, was west of The Rockpile during Operation Dewey Canyon II when I collected some scrap iron, after which I was at Chu Lai
DogMan · 61-69, M
@sunsporter1649 I would have went if I had been old enough. I was the only generation that
did not go to war. Civil war, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and then my nephew went to the Persian Gulf
as a commander on a 155mm howitzer. 1st Cav. Good talking to you. Talk to you later, I'm leaving my office, and going off line.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DogMan Have a grand day, and thank you for your service
It looks kinda like an f4 phantom, at a guess
DogMan · 61-69, M
@dirge You are right☺️
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Looks like a phantom
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
F-4 I'd guess, cant see much of it
Rickinnc · 51-55, M
I’d say F4 but didn’t know AF ever flew them I thought they were a Navy- Marine Corps
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Rickinnc Well, actually the Air Force DID use the F-4. It was one of the few AF fighters that
was able to land on a carrier. None of the new ones can. except maybe the F-35 in the right
configuration. The airframes on most Air Force fighters will not handle a carrier landing,
nor will the landing gear. They might be able to land, but not take off afterwards.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@dirge They used to say the F-4 is proof that anything can fly if it has big enough engines.
@DogMan titanium frames and super sonic at like 10k feet. Unheard of in the modern age.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 I share your perspective; however, I also understand where sunsporter is coming from. And yet, we are all Americans. I bet we are all white men too (sree is a nickname I picked up in India).

Somehow, we yanks are split right down the middle of the political divide. You and I love our country. It's sad that it's in the grip of an evil force draining all our resources and diverting it away from us.
val70 · 51-55
My last guess. A6 Intruder?

sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DogMan Here's an example of the good stuff they so magnanimously gave us....

DogMan · 61-69, M
@sunsporter1649 Looks like it's going through some type of phase inspection. looks
like the engines are out.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DogMan I was only with the squadron 16 months, never saw her fly, lol. We called her "Saluki". [The worlds fastest dog]
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Well it’s not a Schmitt- Argus pulse jet of a V1 flying bomb 😂😂😂
TexChik · F
F4 maybe, not the greatest pic
DogMan · 61-69, M
@TexChik Yep, you are right. I didn't have the best camera back in 1979 That is actually a picture
of an 8x10 picture I have framed.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F

DogMan · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Yeah it was pretty fast
meJess · F
B1 Lancer?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@meJess No, but the Lancer is one cool supersonic heavy Bomber👍
val70 · 51-55
Gosh, I don't know. A Viking?
Repete · 70-79, M
Definitely not an A-4 sky hawk I worked on them.
I’d say an f-4 looking at the tail @val70
DogMan · 61-69, M
@deadgerbil Yes, you are right. Good catch! Long time ago.🥴
The Vulcans did come to Nellis AFB back in the late 70's to participate
with us during Red Flag.

I think I might have mixed it up with the B1's that were there.

I remember the Vulcan having a different sound then our jets and bombers.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Repete Yep, F-4D

icedsky · 51-55, M
@DogMan Drop a Clue. What engine is that? J57?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@icedsky ok, just for you, its a J79 I'm going offline till tomorrow morning.

Then I will let you know. I believe someone has already said the right answer. 🤔
icedsky · 51-55, M
@DogMan I believe I've figured it out. Nuclear capable. But rarely carried the the storedls train. Fast as hell. Not a lot produced. Tandem seats like An F-111. Thats a Vigilante!
DogMan · 61-69, M
@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz nope, sorry Toto
kodiac · 22-25, M
DogMan · 61-69, M
