Why if us hasn't drafted in 40 years must men sign up for it

My step dad just reminded my husband he has to look into religious waiver for selective service. He'll be 18 soon and as Mennonites we are pacifists. Why do They even have a draft still

@sassygirl15: because I am old and I was in the business for many years where I helped young women like you who "it just happened to" and I know how people your age process things.99% of these kids finally admitted that they didn't protect themselves...hormones at your age are wild and no one thinks about consequences. Be honest with yourself girl. I'm not looking for you to admit anything to me...not my business. I'm just saying take full responsibility for your irresponsibility if that is what it actually was.. Just because you have a baby and a hubby does not mean you are grown up.

@Fernie: and I'm telling you not every teenager got pregnant because they didn't use birth control. You can't base everyone on the maturity of most terms either.

There is no draft as our military is all volunteer and has been for a long time as you said. But registering is required in case a draft is needed in the future. It is better to have the information in the files and never need it, than to have a National emergency and not have it available.
