Really sorry to hear that.. I am certain, something better will be waiting for you. Take care.

PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
You may not see it right now...but...God has a plan!
I lost my job after 43 yrs...took my severance at 61 and then social security...at 62. Now my job is taking care of my inlaws who are elderly and not healthy. My plan was to work 50 yrs...God had another plan for me.

@PTCdresser57 ❤️🙏🤗
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I’m sorry. It happened to me with a similar scenario 11 years ago. But I found an even better job with a better boss so I’m glad it happened to me

Hopefully you will find a better position elsewhere!
Beautywithin · 36-40, F
Sorry to hear this, unfortunately time and dedication means nothing in jobs we are all just a number.
@Beautywithin most of the time.. that’s sadly the case.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Beautywithin My supervisor basically told me that during my last ass chewing.
I mean about how one's years of service don't mean jack squat.
Peapod · 61-69, F
It's a devastating feeling. I remember being laid off after 9 years and that was so scary since I was also finding out I was pregnant with my son.

I was in a very specialized field and thought I had no chance of finding work until I was approached by some to start working from home. I quickly realized I had something to offer and it wasn't going to cost much to start up. I was also able to collect unemployment as long as I was upfront about what I was earning. This bought me time to work out all the new kinks to my new home business.

No one could have told me that getting laid off would be the start of something great for me.

I hope you find the same sort of luck. Just take a deep breath and know you will likely find work soon enough.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Peapod thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and share your story. I have a feeling that this is for the best.
Trying to keep positive.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Sunshinekiss I do get it. I cried buckets when it first happened and I worked for such a miserable human being too. I was scared of change.

But looking back, I shudder to think I would have hung in there for another stretch of years, never seeing my own potential for something even better.

Most change is for the better, whether it initially seems like it or not.
pdockal · 56-60, M
That sucks
Look for something ASAP
leave ASAP
there are plenty of people looking for employees
pdockal · 56-60, M
@helenS the younger generation has no clue
I leave 20 minuets buffer
Even when snow is predicted
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@helenS how come you have never wanted to work?
helenS · 36-40, F
@Jenny1234 I have always worked very hard – just not as someone else's employee.
I studied physics, and it was my intention to pursue a career in science. That didn't really succeed, and now I work from home as a technical writer and a programmer.
Fairydust · F
I’m sorry that’s tough, not surprising you’re in shock and he didn’t keep his word.
😔
Fairydust · F
@Sunshinekiss hopefully he has time to think, isn’t good.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Fairydust doesn't sound positive at all.

@Sunshinekiss Seriously, if you can...covertly seek out work with another practice, if at all possible, or a startup that you are an asset to and can help stick around. Because fuck that guy. Your loyalty is not valued enough. Covid or no, he should have been more upfront and not pulling this kind of stuff. He owes you that much for sticking with his practice that long.

Loyalty should be rewarded, not punished. A part of him may even be getting off on this so why play more into his hands if at all avoidable. Hope this is of use and good luck.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
That is a really stressful thing. I wish you luck.
Briggett · T
@PTCdresser57 wow I’m very sorry to hear about that.
I know the feeling very well. It happened to me about this same thing in 09 just before Christmas what a downer.
I do believe that you probably have some options because you have some real solid set of soft people skills based upon your posting and replies.
You will be in my thoughts. I’ll rooting you on and so will the rest of your friends out here.
More later
Good Luck
Wishing You All The Best
Bridgett
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Thank you Briggett!
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Briggett Companies love to do lay-offs and fire people during the holidays. To them it is some kind of sick practical joke.
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Mine was a production plant closing Leggs. Had nothing to do with the holidays. They actually kept the plant open for an extra 90 days to clear everything out and send supplies to other production plants.
Gr8Guy1979 · 41-45, M
Might not have to do anything with this my friend but for a real good reason this was heavy in my heart and wanted to share with you stay blessed

the good news is that we're in the middle of 'the great resignation ' and you're probably in a better position as a part of the labor pool than you have been in years.

that said, it still sucks and makes for way too, much personal drama.

dont sell yourself short, if they offer a position, you don't have to accept a lower wage.

similar boat, I've quit my job. it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.
Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
I’m so sorry to read this. It’s a really hard thing to accept.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Lumberjack70 it is. It feels like the heartbreak of a romantic break-up. With the added financial impact
Wow ,so sorry to hear this . Good luck and hang in there.
QuietEd2019 · 31-35, M
Yikes 😱 that’s terrible I am sorry
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@QuietEd2019 it's not fun.
I know it will get better, but right now I'm just feeling....I can't even find a word for it.
It was just so sudden
Start your business.
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
Im sorry - that would be a shock..and its a shame he isn't honouring the agreement. If he's generally an honourable sort of person i assume his back is against the wall financially.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@ButterRobot that's what he's expressed to me. It still doesn't help my situation though.
helenS · 36-40, F
I don't know what to say. It's terrible. Do you have any other sources of income?
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@helenS if I could just have the 4 months that were agreed to, I'd be able to situate myself and move on. After 13 years I don't think 4 months notice is too much to ask.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Sunshinekiss You could probably litigate but I don't think that would be of much help.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@helenS I'm afraid that would cost more than it's worth. I do still need him as a reference.
Shipwrecked · 46-50, M
Yikes!😳 That really sucks!!😖

(...and I would definitely check into the laws in your area, pertaining to "verbal contracts".
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Shipwrecked thank you. It might cost me more than I'd gain to pursue it. Especially in terms of a reference.
Shipwrecked · 46-50, M
@Sunshinekiss

Unfortunately, that's always a possibility...😔
GLITTER · 36-40, F
I’m really sorry to hear that. Do you not get any redundancy pay or anything?
GLITTER · 36-40, F
@Sunshinekiss are you in the uk? Surely after that long of service you should get something
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@GLITTER I'm in the US.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
@Sunshinekiss urghhhhhh that seriously sucks 🤗🤗 I hope things get better soon
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
Not one word since he basically fired me Friday and yesterday he sent me a text message wishing me a happy Thanksgiving complete with turkwy emojis.
Ugh .. so sorry to hear this for you. Hopefully you can find a better alternative.
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Stillwaiting thank you. I am trying to be optimistic and stop the negative thoughts that come with uncertainty. It still creeps in from time to time.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you get a redundancy payment and a chance of similar employment soon.
That is beyond screwed up you should call the labor board and turn him in immediately
CestManan · 46-50, F
@ExperienceDLT That probably would not solve anything.
The attitude one needs to have about their job is "If I am working today it just means I have a job today."

It kind of sucks but it isn't like the old days where one worked for the same company most of their working years and got set up with a nice pension.
Tres13 · 51-55, M
not good but it opens up new doors, good luck
Sunshinekiss · 51-55, F
@Tres13 thank you
SteveTomms · 56-60, M
so sorry to hear this! Wish you all the very best!!
Flightx · 51-55, M
Am sorry to hear that... trust all will be ok
Bobdale · 56-60, M
Damnit. Sorry
Human1000 · M
You could sue, or at least draw up a demand letter.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I am so sorry.
