I just lost my job after 13 years

****update****

I got a new job. 馃檪馃檪馃檪

Earlier today I was informed by my boss that he decided to merge his practice with that of a colleague and he wouldn't need my services anymore. This would be as of January 1st.

I am still in shock.

He has made this decision due to the fact that business has not rebounded to the pre covid numbers.

There is the possibility for me to be hired at his colleagues practice, with a cut in both my title and salary.

Thing is that my boss and I had an agreement that I'd get 4 months notice if he decided to terminate my employment and he doesn't feel that he should honor that, due to covid.

Just needed to share this. As I said before still in shock.

@Fairydust thank you. I just didn't expect this type of treatment from him, but I guess it's every man for himself.

@Sunshinekiss yeah some are ruthless in business.
How easy is it to find another job?
Sunshinekiss51-55, F
@Fairydust I have 27 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree, along with a pretty good reputation in my field.

The problem is that I relocated 5 years ago and my boss asked me to take my work with me, which I did.

Where I live now the pay isn't as high as I was earning and I would need a remote position due to caring for my child who has high functioning autism.

@Sunshinekiss aw I鈥檓 sorry, did you mention the 4 month notice to him?
Sunshinekiss51-55, F
@Fairydust when I relocated and he offered me the opportunity to take the work with me, I drew up a written negotiation and that was one of the stipulations. He agreed to it verbally.
FairydustF
@Sunshinekiss he should keep his word, at least pay you for the 4 months.
Sunshinekiss51-55, F
@Fairydust I spoke to him about it and he said that he wasn't expecting to pay me those months, and that if he did it would have to be at a reduced rate. He'd get back to me.

If it happens or not, at least I had the conversation with him and let him know what I was expecting.

@Sunshinekiss hopefully he has time to think, isn鈥檛 good.

@Fairydust doesn't sound positive at all.

@Sunshinekiss Seriously, if you can...covertly seek out work with another practice, if at all possible, or a startup that you are an asset to and can help stick around. Because fuck that guy. Your loyalty is not valued enough. Covid or no, he should have been more upfront and not pulling this kind of stuff. He owes you that much for sticking with his practice that long.

Loyalty should be rewarded, not punished. A part of him may even be getting off on this so why play more into his hands if at all avoidable. Hope this is of use and good luck.
