I just lost my job after 13 years

****update****

I got a new job. 馃檪馃檪馃檪

Earlier today I was informed by my boss that he decided to merge his practice with that of a colleague and he wouldn't need my services anymore. This would be as of January 1st.

I am still in shock.

He has made this decision due to the fact that business has not rebounded to the pre covid numbers.

There is the possibility for me to be hired at his colleagues practice, with a cut in both my title and salary.

Thing is that my boss and I had an agreement that I'd get 4 months notice if he decided to terminate my employment and he doesn't feel that he should honor that, due to covid.

Just needed to share this. As I said before still in shock.

I don't know what to say. It's terrible. Do you have any other sources of income?

@helenS no other source of income. He's a very demanding employer. I'd get text messages from him as early as 7am and as late as 6pm. He'd even interrupt my vacations and holidays with work. I accepted it because he paid me well and I was his only employee. It didn't leave me much time to find additional work, but I didn't need to because he did pay me well.

@Sunshinekiss You may have to relocate yourself to another place with suitable job opportunities. It's really terrible. 馃槓

@helenS if I could just have the 4 months that were agreed to, I'd be able to situate myself and move on. After 13 years I don't think 4 months notice is too much to ask.

@Sunshinekiss You could probably litigate but I don't think that would be of much help.

@helenS I'm afraid that would cost more than it's worth. I do still need him as a reference.
