I just lost my job after 13 years

****update****

I got a new job. 🙂🙂🙂

Earlier today I was informed by my boss that he decided to merge his practice with that of a colleague and he wouldn't need my services anymore. This would be as of January 1st.

I am still in shock.

He has made this decision due to the fact that business has not rebounded to the pre covid numbers.

There is the possibility for me to be hired at his colleagues practice, with a cut in both my title and salary.

Thing is that my boss and I had an agreement that I'd get 4 months notice if he decided to terminate my employment and he doesn't feel that he should honor that, due to covid.

Just needed to share this. As I said before still in shock.

That sucks
Look for something ASAP
leave ASAP
there are plenty of people looking for employees

@pdockal Depends on (a) where she lives, (b) her education.
For example, I would not be a suitable employee in the field of tax accountancy.

@helenS that's true but most places are looking for employees of some sort
Don't quit while you look
helenS · 36-40, F
@pdockal I have never been an employee in my whole life, apart from a student job at our institute library.

@helenS so your the boss ?????
helenS · 36-40, F
@pdockal I'm my own boss. I had an employee for a while, but I fired him because he was always late. 8am is 8am, not 8:07. He thought it was rude of me to expect timeliness.

@helenS he was an idiot ... what age was he ... I'm always early unless there is a traffic issue which does happen occasionally
helenS · 36-40, F
@pdockal He was in his early twenties. Yes traffic may be a problem - but if people know they may probably get stuck in a traffic jam they will have to get out of bed earlier.

@helenS the younger generation has no clue
I leave 20 minuets buffer
Even when snow is predicted

@helenS how come you have never wanted to work?
helenS · 36-40, F
@Jenny1234 I have always worked very hard – just not as someone else's employee.
I studied physics, and it was my intention to pursue a career in science. That didn't really succeed, and now I work from home as a technical writer and a programmer.
